This is a small group tour (max 7 passangers) which combines history, engineering marvels, breathtaking natural landscapes and It often gives you the chance to see Brown Bears in their natural habitat.

Begin with Poenari Fortress, once a strategic stronghold of Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for Dracula. The fortress is under renovation and cannot be visited inside. We'll only see it from the outside.

Next is Vidraru Dam, one of Romania's engineering marvels. This towering structure, built in the 1960s, holds back the glistening waters of Lake Vidraru.

We will drive into the heart of the Făgăraș Mountains National Park.

Then we will stop at the Capra waterfall to admire the beauties of nature and the spectacular landscapes.

Finally we will reach Balea lake located at an altitude of over 2000 meters, here we will admire the famous Top Gear Road.

Be prepared for a long drive!

This tour require a minimum of 2 passangers

We will NOT visit the interior of Poenari Fortress, we will only see it from below - outside. To enter in Poenari Fortress you have to climb 66 floors on the stairs!

You will meet our guide at 7:45 a.m. We suggest you come 5 minutes early. Being a group tour, we can not wait for you after the mentioned time.

Please do not bring any food into the vehicle! We'll see wild bears up close. If the car smells like food, we become a target for bears

What To Expect

Poenari Fortress is a historic citadel located in Romania, perched atop a steep cliff in the Carpathian Mountains. Built in the 13th century and later enhanced by Vlad the Impaler, it served as a strategic stronghold and a defensive fortress. Known for its dramatic views and association with the Dracula legend, the fortress is accessible via a challenging climb of over 1,400 steps, offering visitors a glimpse into medieval history and folklore. We see the fortress from exterior.

Vidraru Dam

Vidraru Dam and Lake, located in Romania's Făgăraș Mountains, is a stunning hydro-engineering marvel completed in 1966. The curved arch dam, standing 166 meters high, creates Vidraru Lake, a serene reservoir surrounded by lush forests and dramatic peaks. A popular destination for tourists, it offers breathtaking views, boating, and serves as a gateway to the Transfăgărășan Road.

I had an amazing day trip to the Transfăgărășan Road from Bucharest, and our guide, Sebastian, made the experience truly exceptional. He was professional, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about Romania’s natural beauty and history. One of the highlights was seeing so many wild bears along the way—an unforgettable sight! Throughout the trip, Sebastian made sure we were safe, keeping a respectful distance from wildlife and ensuring everyone followed safety protocols. He balanced fun and adventure with genuine care for the group. His commentary was insightful and engaging, and he made the long drive feel enjoyable and comfortable. Went a few weeks ago. It was quite amazing. Guide was knowledgeable on all the locations we went. We saw so many bears. There is not much walking and you'll spend most of your time in the van but the guide is quite willing to stop and let you take photos. We weren't able to visit Lake Bâlea because the road there was covered in ice and the risk of avalanches. But that's something they warn you about in the description. But the dam, bears, and mountain was amazing to see.

This trip deserves 10 stars. This was an amazing tour with lovely scenery. The vehicle was very comfortable and guide was very knowledgeable. We saw several bears. We had lunch high up in the mountain was so peaceful and nice and the food was good. Highly recommend this tour.

Didn’t see any bears, driver was driving very fast around the curves. The views on top are amazing though. May have to do this again in summer.
