We recently had the incredible opportunity to explore Soweto with Banela as our guide, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. Being from Soweto himself, Banela brought a deeply personal and insightful perspective to the experience, sharing stories and details that made the township come alive for us. The tour was eye-opening, offering a rich understanding of Soweto’s history, culture, and vibrant community spirit. Banela’s passion and knowledge were unmatched, and he answered all our questions with so much depth and enthusiasm. We left the tour feeling informed, inspired, and with a newfound appreciation for the resilience and vibrancy of Soweto. Whether you’re visiting Johannesburg for the first time or have lived nearby for years, this tour is an absolute must. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to learn and connect on a deeper level!

The half day tour of Soweto with Stephenson Adventures was a highlight of my trip to Johannesburg. Our amazing guide, Tsholo, was both knowledgeable and friendly. At each stop, he turned us over to someone who was an expert on that location, and then collected us to take us to the next stop, in between times giving us the whole history of South Africa and its people. We were initially concerned about the ethics of "poverty tourism" but our trip through the shanty town was handled sensitively and proceeds benefit the local daycare center there. Vilakazi Street was lively and lovely, and visiting the home of Nelson and Winnie Mandela was truly moving. This is a great tour for anyone interested in international politics and history, and a good place to begin any trip through South Africa.

The walk with a local in shanty town. It was a real life view and explanation of how the housing and political policies work.
