The small-group experience explores markets, eateries, and local gems, showcasing the best of Danish cuisine. Taste Arla Unika cheeses, gourmet smørrebrød at Aamanns or Café & Ølhalle 1892, handmade sweets from Royal candy maker Sømods Bolcher (est. 1891), fresh pastry from Riviera Bakery, iconic Lakrids A by Johan Bülow, and flødeboller from Summerbird Organic. Enjoy an organic hot dog at DØP and local craft beer/cider at SKAAL. See the Round Tower and walk through historic streets.

After meeting your guide near Frederiksborggade in central Copenhagen, stroll around the city to learn about Danish cuisine and its gastronomic heritage. Throughout the past few decades, Denmark gained quite a conservative reputation when it came to food. However, its cuisine is experiencing a food revolution and many Copenhagen restaurants are replacing the heavy dishes of bygone decades with meals cooked from seasonal, local ingredients that sing with clean and pared-down flavors. The best place to sample the new Nordic cuisine is, of course, in Copenhagen, so let your guide introduce you to the locals’ favorite eateries. The city’s burgeoning food scene is constantly evolving, so restaurants and delicatessens may be swapped on the day of your tour. Places mentioned are just intended to give you an idea of where you may visit. Start with a stroll to Torvehallerne covered market halls to see Arla Unika, Copenhagen’s flagship cheese shop. Sample artisan cheese, developed in collaboration with the city’s Michelin-starred chefs, and admire the pungent wares on offer before strolling to Bornholm Shop to try liquorice, caramels and preserves. Wander through Copenhagen Botanical Gardens and stop for a sample of of Danish apple wine while relaxing in the beautiful green surroundings. Then, take a break in Aamanns café – a hotspot for locals enjoying hearty open sandwiches called smørrebrød made from sourdough rye bread and predominantly organic and free range produce. Continue to a nearby restaurant called Nørrebro Bryghus to sample three different types of home-brewed beer, and then soak up the alcohol with an organic hotdog sample from Copenhagen’s Ecological Hotdog Stand. Finish your tour at Summerbird Chocolate. Producing Copenhagen’s most luxurious chocolate and candy, the shop is also popular for its (highly addictive) flødeboller – chocolate-coated marshmallows. Having eaten your way around Copenhagen, return to the start point where your tour finishes.

5.00Toby, our guide, was superb! This was a terrific tour- a lot of diverse food choices and options, lots of history and a great walk around town. We had everything from chocolates to hot dogs, traditional Danish and even a beer stop. Great fun for our whole family!

5.00Excellent introduction to the history and culture behind the food scene in Copenhagen provided by Simon. We tasted some very good locally sourced foods, so much so, we went back to the bakery for the cinnamon buns another day! Definitely worth doing! There is a fair bit of walking involved, so bear this in mind.

5.00We had an excellent experience on this food tour. Our guide Fredrick was knowledgable, witty and friendly. He took us to some lovely venues and interspersed the culinary information with Danish history and facts about Copenhagen. The tour took about 4 hours and we were lucky to have a very friendly diverse group to share the experience with.

5.00This was our first trip to Denmark and the “gastronomic walking tour” was the perfect way to discover the wonderful city of Copenhagen, whilst sampling the local food and drink. Camilla was an excellent guide, very entertaining and full of historical facts about various buildings/locations. She was great fun and kept us all very well fed, while we were walking around areas that we probably would have otherwise not seen. A really great day out - something we’d never done before, but wouldn’t hesitate to do again. Thoroughly recommended and well worth every kronor. 10/10. Thank you so much X
