Tips
Meiji Shrine Imperial Garden
Hidden within the forest of Meiji Shrine lies the serene Imperial Garden, a private retreat once enjoyed by Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. This peaceful oasis features a seasonal iris garden, a tranquil koi pond, and a charming tea house that reflects the quiet elegance of Japan’s imperial past. As you stroll along its shaded paths, you’ll experience a side of Tokyo rarely seen—calm, contemplative, and deeply connected to nature and tradition.
Meiji Jingu Shrine
Tokyo’s most iconic Shinto shrine, Meiji Jingu is dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken, the beloved modernizers of Japan. Enter through towering torii gates and walk along a forested path lined with 100,000 trees donated from across the country. At the main shrine, witness traditional rituals, offer prayers, or write wishes on wooden ema plaques. A visit here offers not just a glimpse into Shinto spirituality, but a moment of peace in the heart of one of the world’s busiest cities.

As a first-timer in Japan, I was kinda nervous about shrine etiquette. But our guide explained everything in a way that was easy to understand. The water purification ritual was way more meaningful than I expected!

Didn’t expect to laugh so much on a shrine tour, but our guide made it hilarious and educational. The bit about the purification ritual was eye-opening. Definitely didn’t wanna leave!

The tour was the perfect break from Tokyo’s hustle. Walking under those massive trees while hearing about Shinto traditions was so peaceful. And the ema (wish plaques)? Spent ages reading them. So heartwarming!

I thought it’d be just another temple visit, but wow, the stories about Emperor Meiji and the giant torii gates blew me away. Our guide even showed us how to properly pray. Felt like a real local experience.

We totally lucked out with our guide, Doren. Super friendly and knew all the cool hidden spots around Meiji Shrine. Loved the quiet forest walk in the middle of the city, and the sake barrel display was kinda magical. 10/10 would do this again!
