Eat and shop like a Japanese local and immerse yourself in this food-themed trip inside both of Tokyo’s two famous fish markets, Toyosu and Tsukiji. Quite possibly the best places to get a sense of Japanese culinary culture!
Meet up with your guide at your hotel or Toyosu Market where you will experience the energy and excitement of the early morning tuna auction. With all this walking, you learn about the market’s history and why many of Japan’s top chefs visit daily to pick up the freshest-quality ingredients. After the tour, you can stay in the market to enjoy the rest of your breakfast or lunch at your leisure.
Note*1: The tuna auction is viewed from a public space on the third floor.
We ask that your be aware that Toyosu is a place of business. To keep fish sanitary for consumption, you cannot enter the main auction floor. The tuna auction length varies daily due.

Toyosu Market
Toyosu Market (豊洲市場, Toyosu Shijō) opened on October 11, 2018 on the man-made island of Toyosu in the Bay of Tokyo. It took over the wholesale business from the aging Tsukiji Market and provides tourists with an opportunity to observe the market action and to dine at restaurants across its large, modern premises. The huge wholesale market consists of three main buildings: two buildings for seafood and one for fruits and vegetables. All buildings are connected with each other and Shijo-mae Station via walkways, and tourists can enter them along dedicated routes and view the action from observation windows that look onto the auction and wholesale halls for tuna, other seafood and produce.

5.00Toru did a great job showing us around the auction house and explaining how the auction worked. Toru took us to a sushi restaurant at the auction house where we had the best tuna sushi possible!! We also went through the outer market which was really worthwhile to see all of the Fish for sale to wholesalers and then we went to the old market and we’re able to see lots of wonderful food and ingredients

5.00Thank you, Mr. Katsu Hayama (“Goreilo”), for an unforgettable first day in Tokyo. We enjoyed such a personalized and engaging tour of Toyosu Market, an impromptu breakfast omakase, and Tsukiji Market. Katsu-san was incredibly attentive—from reaching out in advance to help coordinate our logistics, to thoughtfully curating our day and indulging us with a 6am sushi omakase experience. Katsu-san taught us the ins-and-outs of the Japanese tuna industry, scored us a great viewing area of the auction, and even volunteered to take our photos. Katsu-son answered all of our questions and also shared helpful insight on cultural etiquette, including how to navigate public transportation and move through busy streets with consideration. His enthusiasm and extensive knowledge of the fish industry in Tokyo made the experience both informative and meaningful. It was the perfect start to our trip. We are so grateful for his guidance and highly recommend adding this in your Tokyo itinerary!

4.00Very interesting tour. While the start time of 5:00 at the Toyosu fish market is appropriate, it would be important to fill the gap between the ending of the auctions and the the 7:00 opening of the Tsukiji market.

What stood out most was how well they adapted to our interests—adjusting the pace, focusing on the topics we found most engaging, and answering all of our questions with great detail and enthusiasm. 5.00We met Toru Higaki, our guide at 5am and the tour went smoothly from there. Toru was organised, informative and spoke excellent English. Had all our questions answered, saw everything we wanted to and the sushi meal was the highlight. Excellent tour and highly recommended.

5.00A friend highly recommended that we sign up for the Toyosu Tuna Auction tour and we are so glad we did. Our tour guide, Isao, met us at our hotel at 5:00 am and accompanied us on the taxi ride to the market. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, explaining the history of the market and providing insights of the auction itself. The auction was an amazing experience, which was followed by a delicious sushi breakfast at one of Isao’s favorite restaurants at the market. Then Isao led us on a tour of the many shops at the market. The auction and market tour with Isao has been a highlight of our Japan vacation. Don’t miss it!

5.00This experience was amazing! We had an incredible time at the Toyosu Tuna Auction and the Tsujiki market. Truly once in a lifetime experience regarding how the best Tuna is sold and eaten around the word. Our tour guide, Toru Higaki was very friendly and knowledgeable about the Tuna Auction and gave great recommendations at the market. He was the best! Also, don’t skip out on the sushi breakfast! It’s one of the tastiest omakase we had during our trip. They use the freshest fish from the market right next door.
