Come with us for your Aurora hunt for an amazing and ethical experience underneath the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. During this tour, our small team of Aurora guides check the forecasts & use local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal.
You'll be shown how to use your camera, photograph the Aurora, and our guides will take photos of you, available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
During our time together in the wilderness, we will collect data for a citizen science project and help protect the Arctic nature through responsible tourism.
Enjoy our hot chocolate before being returned to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our experienced team will do their best every night of the season.

When exceptional situations arise (e.g. environmental cancellations) it is important to reach you. This is easiest if you provide your contact number on the road (phone number + correct country code) & keep this with you on the day of the tour.
We only drop off at set drop off locations: Scandic Ishavhotel, Smarthotel, AMIhotel, Vervet, Wandering Owl office, Airport, Arctic Cathedral, Tromsø Camping bus stop, Breivika Cruise Dock
Winter equipment is included, please give us your clothing and shoe sizes - fill out ewaiver form
Please advise any specific dietary requirements at time of booking as well as medical condition if needed
Please bring your passport with you in case you need to cross to Finland during the tour
Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately. Make sure you wear a warm base layer, winter clothes including warm shoes, a hat, mittens, a scarf and woolen socks.
A small amount of walking is involved, you must be able to walk 200m
Please be prepared for limited toilet facilities, there will be a gas station stop during the drive, however the camp itself is in the wild Arctic nature where the only toilet possibilities are in the forest (there are no pre-built facilities).
Minimum numbers apply. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if less than 4 passengers per tour. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund
We provide home-made vegan and gluten free soup
You must travel with travel insurance.
SIGN OUR eWAIVER. We need one participant to sign it on behalf of the group making sure that the names of all participants are in the document.

5.00It was a superb trip with Anna and Vitek. They were very kind and friendly, Anna did well to keep the tour group engaged, providing good information and knowledge about the geography, history and science of Tromso, the Arctic region and of the aurora phenomenon. Vitek was also very kind, taking care of small things one might not normally notice, but he was very much on it. While the tour operator had mentioned that the aurora can be quite elusive and is a matter of multiple natural factors, we were very lucky to catch it at 3 spots, each better than the previous one, by God's grace and Team Wandering Owl efforts. A big thank you to Anna and Vitek, for treating us well throughout the journey. The vegan soup and hot chocolate were both delicious, and we were thankful for it because we are vegetarians. Photographs clicked by Anna were all great, she was a total professional. The thermal suits really helped a lot, else us tropical creatures would have been totally frozen. Very happy with the tour, although we must say that it can be very hard on the tour operators and guides if nature chooses not to support, so one must be understanding of the pressure they are constantly under. Would definitely recommend to friends, a big thank you to Team Wandering Owl.

5.00Anna was a fantastic guide and Michael was a great driver! We saw a FANTASTIC northern lights show on a cloudy and rainy night. They found a perfect spot where the clouds opened up that was only an hour away from the Tromso city center, and thanks to their expertise we did not have to travel any further. After the tour we quickly got beautiful professional photos that captured the lights better than I ever could. I'm especially grateful that they checked for folks who get motion sickness easily and allowed us to sit in the front. Michael was a great driver even in rain and I didn't get sick at all (I usually do!). We had about 15 people in the minivan and I felt that it was an small enough experience. The soup and hot chocolate was fantastic, and I felt well taken care of and safe as a solo female traveler.
