• A great safari at beautiful Yala

  We spent a wonderful day with our guide/driver Dilanka. The pick up and drop off outside the cruise ship port went very smoothly. We were impressed with the 4x4 for the safari. The ride was bumpy inside Yala but the high clearance and the cool breeze both helped to make the ride very enjoyable for us, we were grinning from ear to ear the whole way as safari newbies. In our mid sixties the ride was more fun than anything else even though it was nice to leave the driving to the experts. From the pick up to the restroom stops to the carefully prepared lunch we felt that the team really tried everything they could to take care of us and to insure that we had a good time. We saw crocodile, families of elephants, iguanas, deers, mongoose, water buffaloes and beautiful species of birds. Dilanka was a very good driver and bent over backwards to maneuver the jeep every which way for our pictures. He also stopped at beautiful viewpoints for us to enjoy. On the way back we could not tear away from watching/taking pictures of a family of three gorgeous elephants with mommy nursing baby while big brother vied for attention. So we were a little late leaving the park and Dilanka had to try super hard to get us back on time. The ride back was fast and fun and I felt bad we took so much extra time, must have caused our driver anxiety but he did not rush us. Overall we loved our safari and did not care too much about not seeing the leopards. To have a team going out of their way for us to have fun was more precious than any sighting. Big thanks to Dilanka and the safari team and thank you for going through all the hardships that you do to help us enjoy a beautiful Yala National Park Safari.

  Would have been 5 star but for 2 factors. Our guide’s English was limited so while he gave us lots of information, it was hard to get questions answered. And the roads inside the park were in terrible condition, so if you have a bad back, definitely beware. Getting in the jeep is definitely a challenge as well. After the tour I learned they had 5 days of heavy rains before we were there that had led to the bad roads. Animal sightings are never guaranteed and the elusive leopard remained elusive. But our guide tried hard to find one. We did see tons of birds, a few elephants, and some monkeys, and lots of cows and buffalo.

  Any driver can find animals if they ask other drivers! Our driver could drive…fast…but spoke minimal English and did not know names of birds and most other animals. He pointed them out though we saw them about the same time as he did. Expected something more than a truck and a driver.

  Very competent. Collected and dropped off off timely. Truck good but very bouncy in the park owing to the track. Weakness Driver good but could not hold a conversation in English only basic words.
