Travelers will be greeted at Hambantota International Port by an Ajith Safari representative holding a name board. After a quick introduction, they’ll be escorted to their private safari vehicle and begin the journey toward Yala National Park.

5.00We stayed in Hambantota and Ishan D, our guide/ driver made an extra effort to come by early at 4am to pick us up for the safari trip. We were very luck to see leopards multiple times and in a close distance! He was very thoughtful and tactful in locating the wild animals. We also saw a lot of exotic birds, elephants, water buffalos and monkeys. We also had a peaceful picnic lunch at a location Ishan picked for us, despite the crowd in the park. Highly recommended tour and guide!

5.00Easy pick up from Hambantota port. He was absolutely lovely and attentive. He gave descriptions of the animals at the safari and was super grateful in a sense of spotting the leopard and assisting to ensure we all had an image of it. He was attentive to us which was really a great experience.

4.0045 minutes late in leaving the port harbor. tour was as advertised but the roads were very bumpy and seniors with physical limitations should inquire ahead. very hard to get into and out of the safari jeeps. drivers should go slower over the speed bumps on the way to the park. the driver went over one so fast that i cracked my head on the steel roof of jeep. did not see any jaguars as our tour started to late after the delay leaving the port due to late arriving guests.. saw plenty of wildlife though.

4.00Overall a fun day. We did see a nice variety of animals, but not the leopards or sloth bears we hoped to see. The ride to and from Yala was fascinating and gave a nice glimpse of local life. The fact that we didn't see the critters we wanted to see was not the operator's fault but the last minute notification that our tour would start at 8am even though we signed up for 930;am was their fault. To make it worse, we sat around in the vehicle for over 30 minutes waiting for the tour to depart.

5.00Booked after reading good reviews. They did not lie. Saw elephants! Even a leopard in the distance. Our guide was knowledgeable and had a good idea where we would find them. A bit chaotic getting organised at the beginning. But definitely worth it.

5.00A great tour from cruise ship. Yala is fascinating. Some information was sent to my phone which I had not connected to Internet and had roaming turned off. Hence I was looking for Ajith Tours when service provider from Port to Jeep was by Diamond Tours. Hence a message from Viator via my email on my IPad would have been welcome. Nevertheless the tour was outstanding and well organised.

4.00A four star rating is possibly a bit harsh but at this time of the year our guide said that sighting a leopard is more unlikely. We didn't see one and probably finding one would have capped our day and that of many others on the safari. But that's nature. Another group did glimpse a leopard in the vegetation once outside the park! The tour was well organised, our driver/guide knowledgeable and competent and we saw some great birdlife, elephants, monkeys, buffalo, deer, monitors and two crocodiles. Yala is good but it is not like an African safari. However, you're in Sri Lanka and it's a good overall experience.

3.00Communications and planning are not the strength of this provider. The day before our tour we got a note from them saying that we needed to pay SL Rupees in cash for the park entrance fee and that our pickup would be at 9:30 and not 8:30. We were under the impression that you could pay with credit card or USD or Euro. After some back and forth with them, they said no problem they would stop at an ATM. The pickup guy said that they would. I saw him talk to the bus driver (it was a big group from our cruise ship). The bus driver finally stopped at a fruit stand and asked whether it was a coconut that I wanted! What? Then I started to talk with the others on the bus and they had the same issues. So we arrive at the pickup spot for the safari trucks and they start collecting the fee. They would take foreign currency (with a significant mark up on the 13,000 rupee fee) or credit card. They insisted that the fee had gone up to 13,900 and did not accept our protests. Then another man went ballistic on them and a supervisor told us that we would only have to pay the 13000. It strikes me that it was just a side scam that they have going on. Now to the safari itself. Our driver never introduced himself but he did try to communicate about the birds and animals we were seeing. My only complaint was that he didn't stop when we were clearly interested in something and stopped often when there was not much to see. We saw a lot but no leopards. I doubt very much that they are often spotted as the terrain seems difficult for their viewing. We have done safaris in quite a few places. I think that our expectations may be too high for Yala. The birds were great for viewing if they would take the time to view them. There were a few elephants. And the promised "pee" break did not occur. Rather there was a break by a reservoir for the drivers to have their lunch. You could get off the vehicle but it was raining and the vehicles are a killer to get in and out. So we had a drink and sandwich in the vehicle. So then the rush to get back to the cruise ship as it was a tight connection before it's departure (made tighter by the late start to the day). We waited on our bus and waited and waited. Finally somebody spoke up and said we had to get going. The driver and all the staff were in a dither about it but finally released the driver to go. We got back to our ship but it was closer than I would like. I enjoyed what I saw of Yala and I think that it likely has a lot to offer. Maybe with another provider?
