Mutianyu Great Wall
Meet your guide in the lobby of your central Beijing hotel at around 12 pm, and get in your personal comfortable and air-conditioned car. Begin the 75-kilometer or 1.5-hour drive to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. As one of the most famous and best-preserved sections of the UNESCO-listed wall, Mutianyu is surrounded by lush greenery, offering beautiful views as it snakes across the hills and mountains. Arrive at Mutianyu at about 1:30 pm to begin your journey. Tour guide will accompany you to the middle section, give instructions as to where to go and when to get back, and let you choose to hike by yourself. The round-trip hike is about 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) and will take approximately 3 hours. If you prefer not to hike for this period of time, you may use the cable car (included) to travel up and down the mountain. The hike will finish around 4:30 pm. After the tour, return to Beijing.
Includes round-way cable car
Pickup included

This was our first trip to China. Clair was a great tour guide. I ran into an issue on the original day I booked but I called the tour company directly and they were so nice to change the date for me. The ride from Beijing is a little long but Clair keeps you entertained with stories and the bus is nice, clean and comfortable. The only drawback is if you do want to shop a little they do no shop at the shopping area down the road. There are however a couple of shops at the wall if you want an I hiked the great wall shirt or something. I recommend the shop at the top of the lift.

Pretty straight, no mandatory shopping and stuff. Would have wished a little bit more time on the wall though.

The tour guide did arrive on time as expected. The tour guide Chan was good but seemed to be catering more to the 5 chinese tourists who i believe paid SIGNIFICANTLY less on our tour they received their wall tickets first and was not giving us a clear explanation of what was happening at the ticket booth In general that was my only complaint, when we got to the ticket booth it was chaos, he did not explain what we needed to do, where and what we needed to buy the gondola ticket etc I also felt that he was not honest about how long it takes to climb to the wall and how long it takes to get from tower to tower, it seemed like he was pushing us to purchase the return ticket for the gondola. Needless to say the wall was awesome and thus it overcame all these issues with the tour guide. The tour was as described and I would do it again. It's actually quite economical compared to other tours available. You also get to meet other English speaking tourists on the bus and at lunch which is the second best part of doing the tour thing.

I had an amazing time at the Great Wall -- it was snowing and an unbelievable experience. The low rating is instead focused on the value I got from this particular tour: Here is what you should know:
--You will pay 20 more than anyone else on this tour if you book via TripAdvisor
--You will be on a bus of about 40 people and spend close to 2 hours driving around Beijing picking others up
--The Tour Consists of the following: transportation to and from the Great Wall and lunch but be prepared to pay extra for anything to drink such as water, tea, etc
--You are on your own at the Great Wall -- tour guide doesn't actually go on the wall with you to add any additional information to what you are seeing.
--Based on the above, I would just look at whatever is the cheapest option to get to/from the Great Wall. Getting a tour didn't provide anything extra and don't overpay by booking through TripAdvisor.

This tour was wonderful! The tour organizer contacted me at my hotel the night before the tour, as promised. She told me to meet them in the lobby at 7:30am the next day. My tour guide, Fa, was there right on time. We traveled in a 20-passenger van to the wall. There were probably 15 tourists all together. Each tourist was picked up from his or her respective hotel between 7-8am. Fa was so sweet and informative. She did speak English, though she had a heavy accent. She repeated herself many times to ensure that we understood her. I didn't have issues understanding her instructions. She told us about the history of the Great Wall and offered travel tips for Beijing as well. Upon arrival, she pointed out the restaurant at the foot of the mountain where we would meet for lunch. She also showed us a map of the wall, recommended a hiking route, and asked us to meet back in 3 hours. We were then released to explore the wall on our own. We met back at the restaurant at lunch time and enjoyed a family-style lunch of traditional Chinese cuisine. This was my favorite part of the trip because, as a solo traveler, I loved meeting other tourists who had come from all over the world, chatting and sharing our travel stories. The food was delicious and the restaurant was cute and clean. We piled back into the van after lunch and the driver took us back to Beijing where they dropped us off individually at each of our hotels. On the way back, Fa gave us more tips for exploring Beijing and even sang us an ancient Chinese poem! She offered us her cell number and said that if we needed anything, we could call her for assistance. I would definitely recommend this tour to solo travelers or groups. It was a safe, easy, and enjoyable way to experience the Great Wall.
