The Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue Of Montreal

Here we will tell you about the history of the Jewish community of Amsterdam. The Amsterdam Sephardic community was one of the largest and richest Jewish communities in Europe during the Dutch Golden Age, and their very large synagogue reflected this. The synagogue remains an active place of worship and is also a popular tourist attraction.

For us as Canadian Jews who were born in Germany and Poland, it was a very meaningful tour. What happened to our Jewish brethren hit us personally. It showed us something that we had not known: i.e. that the Nazis could not have killed so many of our people without the Dutch collaborators who sold Jewish lives for money!
