  The trip was extremely short, which may be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the situation. We were talked into taking this tour instead so in case of bad weather we don't get stuck during a longer excursion. But the weather was just perfect, so cutting the mountain experience short was a disappointment. During our tour there was an emegency but the guide handled it so we wouldn't know if not told. Props to him! During our off-season visit there were no crowds and our own group was comfortably small. The sight itself is a thing to see, mountains are beautiful, the lake water turquoise and nice spots on the slope to take pictures. Besides going by the asphalt road to it on foot that locals do, there's pretty much nothing else to do, as the lake shore is guarded by the military. So, it's a quite brief and harmless experience for people who would like to see the nature but don't go hikes or don't want to spend much time doing it.

  Doing this tour is 1000% recommended! I am glad I booked with Dao Travel. Dmitri was super helpful and provided with a lot of historical and useful information involving not only the Lake but the city as well. The Lake was unreal, I had plenty of time to admire it and take all the photos, we then head back to the city and he gave some good tips for some great local cafés. It is worth mentioned that the tour was done on the best possible time to see the lake in full glow with perfect sunlight, after sunrise, at around 8 AM.

  Beautiful view after a long tough hike. But great guide Viktor made it easy and relaxing. He was patient, funny and very knowledgeable about the terrain and spots. Will definitely recommend him for next hike!

  Great experience. Dimitri was very helpful with last minute booking and pickup. Our guide Viktor was excellent and highly skilled. He knew everything about the area and was very knowledgeable.

  My husband and I, took the Big Almaty lake tour with Dimitri. The day trip was extremely well planned in a super comfortable mini van. Dimitri is very knowledgeable about the area, history of the country and very well informed. He also helped us with the transportation to Shymbulak and everything was seamless. Highly recommended while in Almaty.

  Absolutely stunning views! Great hosts, quick and easy communication. Bus was comfortable and the tour was quick yet memorable.

  This was a well organised tour. Dimitry, the tour guide, is a knowledgeable person. He has a lot of information about Kazakhstan and Almaty. Do ask him a lot of questions :p. All in all the best experience, Big Almaty is surely the most beautiful place in the whole Almaty do not miss this tour. Also Please plan your tour 2 days in advance if you guys book it on the 11th hour it becomes difficult for the tour guide to plan. Dimitry had to drive his personal car to accommodate extra bookings.

  amazing hike! dmitry is really knowledgeable and shared a lot of cool facts about the region! he even shared a list of recommendations with the group on sights to see and places to eat in almaty.

  Vlad messaged me the might before telling me the pick up time and location, when i got to pick up point he’s already there waiting! we got to the starting point early so the hike was a breeze, he’s really funny but also reassuring. Going down from the lake we chose the scenic route through the forest. He warned there are wild animals, and assured us he will fight the bear! LOL All jokes aside, great trip to Big Almaty Lake, will def book again when I visit Almaty in the future

  Terribly unprofessional guy. He's called Dmitry I believe. Didn't seem interested in doing to the tour. He had the audacity to cancel an hour before the agreed time. I wasted a whole day because of this useless guy.
