This tour not only showcases the typical wildlife of the rainforest, but also from a unique place in the world: Lake Gatun, part of the Panama Canal. Observing monkeys in the open, seeing crocodiles, tropical birds and even large boats transiting the canal, all on the same route, creates an experience impossible to replicate elsewhere.

While most tours end at the pier, this includes an authentic stop at a fruit market, where visitors can sample fresh Panamanian pineapple, considered one of the sweetest in the world. This moment connects travelers with local agriculture and gives the tour a very special flavor, literally.

The tour to Monkey Island starts early in the morning, usually between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m., with direct pickup from your hotel in Panama City.

Monkey Island

When you arrive at the Marina de Gamboa, you will embark on a boat tour of Gatun Lake, one of the most important sections of the canal. During this walk, you will sail between small islands covered in rainforest until you reach the famous Monkey Island. Here, you will have the opportunity to observe several species of monkeys in their natural habitat, such as capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys and marmosets. Some even approach the boats in search of fruit, allowing close and unique moments with these curious forest dwellers.

Great experience! Take this tour! We encountered howlers, TiTi monkeys, and white faced- they even climbed all over the boat! Milton was an awesome guide. 10/10!

We traveled in a fun large bus. Our tour guide Daniel was excellent. Cheerful, knowledgeable, forthcoming. The boat ride was so pleasant. Our large group got along well. I enjoyed seeing the animals but even more enjoyed moving along the lake So peaceful.

I recommend go to have fun and learn alot about the culture. I even saw tiny bats, turtle, alligator. I was looking for sloth but they were none out.

Caught glimpse of many animals and had a wonderful boat ride the monkeys were cute and reptiles were chill. daniel with captain jack sparrow showed us and taught us a lot about the flora of the jungle. Ivan the driver was fast and furious. 😂 he got us to the fruit market where we had a great selection of amazing local fruits. Captain jack sparrow tucked us in close to the monkeys where we were able to get lots of great photos.

Best tour I've taken in Panama! Daniel was our guide. He pointed out sites along the road and provided history and details with humor which made the ride enjoyable. When we arrived at the dock we had a monkey whisper and captain Jack manning the boat. At 1st we were not successful and finding any monkeys with the entire team did not give up. We went from island to island calling the monkeys, nothing! We moved on to flora and Damiel pointed out "suvivor plants". I am not prepared to survive in a rainforest eating plants, termites and smoking leaves to feel relaxed and maybe a little euphoria 😄 The tenacious attitude of the whisper, captain Jack and guide Daniel is admirable! We tried agin to call moneys and this time was successful . We saw 3 different species of monkeys on 3 different islands. I even was able to feed peanuts to one group of monkeys. It was fascinating and amazing!! Daniel explained everything about each species and told us how to attract and feed the nuts (which he provided) to the monkeys. I will always remember this trip because the tour team never quit and we're all warm and spectacular.

We did this excursion on 10/23 and Jennifer was our host. There were only three people for the excursion on this day and rather than canceling, Jenny picked us up at our hotel and personally drove us for the day. The tour started at a local market where we were able to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. Then we made our way to the boat where we met captain Yunito. Yunito is called the “monkey whisperer”. He definitely lived up to the name as we were able to see all three types of monkeys on our tour, the TiTi Monkey, Howler Monkey and the White Face Monkey. We saw a sloth, turtle and other wildlife. There were several freighters being accompanied by tug boats. Jenny was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions throughout. 10/10
