The Alhambra
On a rocky hill that is difficult to access, on the banks of the River Darro, protected by mountains and surrounded by woods, among the oldest quarters in the city, the Alhambra rises up like an imposing castle with reddish tones in its ramparts that prevent the outside world from seeing the delicate beauty they enclose. Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence of royalty and of the court of Granada in the middle of the thirteenth century, after the establishment of the Nasrid kingdom and the construction of the first palace, by the founder King Mohammed ibn Yusuf Ben Nasr, better known as Alhamar. The fortress became a citadel with high ramparts and defensive towers, which house two main areas: the military area, or Alcazaba, the barracks of the royal guard, and the medina or court city, the location of the famous Nasrid Palaces and the remains of the houses of noblemen and plebeians who lived there.
Alcazaba
The Alcazaba plainly served a military function. The entrance to the Alcazaba was at the foot of the Tower of Homage . At the base of the tower is a slight slope. A simple L-shaped walkway keeps the main gate from being seen from the outside.

2.00Unfortunately, the host on the coach (Andrea) spoke too fast and her English was not good enough for us to understand. We could only understand a few words and the narrative sounded like it was read from a history book. The mid journey stop was ok but not great as it was just a motorway service area. The guide at al hambra (Andy) was ok. Our lunch break was supposed to be an hour but it was only 45 minutes, so by the time we had been served lunch we didnt have time to finish it. The guide at the royal palace (Sarah) was excellent. She was friendly, calm and gave very clear explanations and she was patient with everyone. Unfortunately, apart from Sarah, it was a poor experience for us.

4.00This was a really good tour. Despite being a long travel day (nearly 3 hours there, 3 hours back), it all felt worth it. The drive was broken up both ways for a break which was helpful. The time in Granada itself was also really nice. The tour of Albayzin was informative we had some nice free time for lunch and shopping. The tour of Alhambra was fantastic. It’s a beautiful monument and shouldn’t be missed! Everything was very well organized and seamless. Thank you for a great day!

1.00Where do I start? I would give this 0 stars if I was able. Tour was supposed to meet at 7am. Started 1 hour late. Apparently, there was a mix up with the bus. One tour company bought another tour company blah, blah blah. This set the tone for the rest of the day. Could not understand the tour guide- she spoke very broken English. Additionally, were only given vague information about the tour stop and the tour description did not fit the experience. Viator does not want to hear about your issues. Too big to care. Do yourselves a favor and use another company.
An amazing construction that can never be replicated.

5.00It was a long day but well worth it. Order tickets to Alhambra ahead of time though! Daniella was our tour guide and she was so knowledgeable and hospitable
