Cao Bang is an immensely beautiful, sparsely populated frontier region of North Vietnam. This mountainous expanse sits on the northeast border with China and is home to many ethnic minority communities. Although the Ban Gioc waterfalls have become a popular attraction, this region is often overlooked by tourists which has meant its unique beauty and culture has been well preserved. The landscape here is typified by jagged mountains carpeted in thick vegetation, sporadic rice paddies and thin winding roads. Experience the natural beauty of northern Vietnam’s Ban Gioc Waterfall on this multi day guided excursion. After a convenient hotel pickup in Hanoi, explore Ban Gioc Waterfall and Pagoda, Angle's Eyes Mountain and explore Nguom Ngao Cave with see the colors of its stalactites. Enjoy complimentary meals, accommodations, hikes through beautiful scenery and then take in all the landscape of the countryside around you.

Ban Gioc Waterfall - Detian Falls
Ban Gioc Waterfall is one of Vietnam’s most impressive natural sights. Located in the northeastern province of Cao Bang, the falls are 30 metres high and 300 metres across, making Ban Gioc the widest (but not the highest) waterfall in the country. The falls occur on the Quay Son River, a beautiful jade-blue body of water flowing from China through a pastoral landscape of rice fields and bamboo groves surrounded by limestone pinnacles. Despite improved road access and public transportation connections, and the popularity of several recent viral drone videos showcasing the majesty of the falls, Ban Gioc is still a relatively off-the-beaten-path sight. Mass tourism has yet to arrive and, outside of weekends and public holidays, there’s rarely more than a trickle of foreign and domestic visitors.
Nguom Ngao Cave
Nguom Ngao Cave is located in a mountain in Gun village of Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, is a priceless asset that the nature has gifted to the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang. Nearly 5 kilometres away from the renowned Ban Gioc Waterfall, Nguom Ngao Cave was discovered in 1921, opened to tourists in 1996, and recognised as a national-level scenic landscape in 1998. Nguom Ngao means “Tiger Cave” in the Tay ethnic language. It is said that that this site used to be a den of many tigers which were then killed by local residents to guarantee a safe life. Given this, local Tay people named this place “Nguom Ngao”. However, another story said there was an underground stream with piles of pebbles flowing into the Quay Son River and releasing murmur which echoes in the cave and sounds like a tiger’s roar, thus earning this cave the name “Nguom Ngao”.

Really good guide. It was super safe to ride with Chuong and his gang. His English is not great but he’s working on it and it was obvious he did his best in everything we did. Would definitely recommend!

Very good excursion, arrival around 1 pm with a good meal at a restaurant in Cao bang, then Check-out for the “magic eyes mountain” with several stops including 1 near a lake to relax and drink coffee. Arrived around 4 pm in the mountains, I did an hour of padel on the lake in front of the mountain, then settled at the campsite (I had the choice between homestay or camping in front of the mountain). On the 2nd day, Motorcycle Check-out to the waterfall (2h drive) visits the waterfalls then lunch then break near a lake before finishing the road to return to the pick-up point with Check-out around 4pm and arrived in Hanoi around 10pm. I recommend without problem and a big thank you to Tuan who was a very good Guide!
