On our route to the Highlands, we will first stop at the town of Bankfoot. We will take advantage of this moment to have a first coffee, buy some souvenir of the country. With luck you will also be able to photograph the famous hairy coo, or Scottish hairy cows.

The itinerary in this trip needs to be modified. It is very rushed and you are basically just stopping to take pictures vs exploring. The first stop to Culloden battlefield is so rushed that you either use it as a restroom stop or quickly walk the whole site with barely any time to pose for a picture . The only stop with plenty of time and is totally worth it is Urquhart castle and the cruise if you don’t purchase an extra ticket for this activity you will wait for about an hour in some boring souvenir shop for the rest of the group . You then go to Inverness you basically walk up the Main Street and back no real time to stop in any shop if you want to walk the entirety of the street and still have time for a restroom stop . Then get right back on the bus . Then on to to Pitlochry which has such a beautiful quaint Main Street but again you only have time to walk up the street and back and stop at the corner ice cream shop for a delicious whiskey ice cream and a restroom stop and back on the bus. I chose this trip last minute because all the small tours of 8-12 people were sold out . Not only that but my original booking was in English they cancelled it because they did not have sufficient numbers for it so I was added to the Spanish tour upon my request (luckily I speak Spanish or I would have missed the tour altogether). Our tour guide spoke very fast and appeared to get insulted if I slipped and asked a question in English and acted as if she did not understand a word as simple as the title of the location “battlefield “ so make sure if you’re in my position speak Spanish only. I will never take a tour that is not a small group again . This was a very large group and by the time everyone gets off the bus and then you are behind that many people during restroom stops your time at a location is basically over. If you do not want a rushed trip do not chose this one . I recommend taking a 2-3 day small group tour with plenty of time to enjoy all the sites .

Very disappointing. Two tours were occurring at the same time in two different languages, which I think is highly unprofessional. We had to use headphones and our guide was whispering since she was next to the other guide, and I could barely hear most of the narration. In addition, very little time was spent at Culloden, very rushed, and yet the whole tour ended up being several hours OVER the scheduled time of 12 hours. I wouldn't do this tour again.

  • Extremely Disappointing Tour Experience – Would Not Recommend

recently took the Inverness, Loch Ness, and Urquhart Castle Full Day Tour booked through Viator, and unfortunately, it was the worst tour experience I’ve ever had. I’ve been on many group day tours before, and this one was by far the most poorly organized. To start, it was never communicated that we would be required to wear headphones throughout the tour. This was extremely uncomfortable, and more importantly, inconsiderate to people who wear hearing aids — several of whom I know would not have been able to participate properly. The headphones hurt my ears and I could not wear them for long. Additionally, we were the only English-speaking participants on a bus otherwise full of Spanish-speaking guests. This was never disclosed to us when booking, and it significantly impacted our experience. There was a screen on the bus that could have at least indicated who was speaking or offered translation, but this feature was not utilized. While the Spanish-speaking guide seemed to be engaging and communicative with that group, our guide was not Scottish and very difficult to understand. Her commentary was vague and, at times, inappropriate or misinformed. The timing at stops was also poorly managed. We barely had enough time to use the restroom, let alone explore or shop — for example, I had hoped to buy a souvenir from Loch Ness but there was simply no time allowed for this. Overall, I felt misled, left out, and rushed through what should have been a memorable experience. I would strongly urge others to look elsewhere when booking a tour in this region. I will definitely be sharing my experience widely to help others avoid the same disappointment.

It is a beautiful place, amazing scenery and the castle is worth visiting. While the trip is long, our guide from Get your guide (Mexican) was able to fill the time with the history of the place and many other facts. I recommend it!!

Aside from the very cold weather, it was a good trip. There was only 7 tourists and sometimes less is more on a tour bus. It wasn’t noisy and we could hear our guide, Serena, perfectly. I do recommend taking this tour when there’s more daylight hours. It started getting dark around 4pm. I also suggest to take the boat ride and castle visit. It’s fun, take great pictures and have good memories. Bundle up and keep warm if you come winter time! The bus: the bus was warm and roomy. At least my legs weren’t cramped. The guide: Our guide Serena was very friendly and informative. She gave great suggestions and prompt reminders. Thank you! The bus driver: I’m sorry I forgot his name! But he drove us safely around from 7:30am-8:30 pm so thank you! Tips: Dress warmly in winter, take the boat ride and castle visit, BE ON TIME when it’s time to depart each stop. Oh and take potty breaks on each stop cause some are long rides.

If you want to be stranded in the middle of the Highlands, several hours from the starting point of Edinburgh, because the bus leaves without you, then this is the tour for you! My friend and I went on this 12-hour tour on Tuesday, Oct 8. At the stop at the Battle of Culloden, we were told to be back at the bus at 1 pm. At about 12:45 pm, I had a medical event during which I was incapacitated and nearly fainted. My friend was assisting me. She knew we were still within the time frame to be back at the bus, and she was trying her hardest to assist as I perched on a tombstone with my head between my legs, not capable of walking at that moment. The episode passed after a few minutes and I went to the restroom at 12:55 pm before heading to the bus. I happened to notice on my Whatsup App while sitting on the toilet that a message had come through from the bus company TWO minutes prior to when I saw it that said I needed to return to the bus. My friend got NO notification from the bus company. I responded to the message from the toilet, exactly 3 minutes after it had come through. I responded that I would be to the bus in one minute. When my friend and I walked out of the restroom towards the bus, we saw the bus drive away. My friend waved her arms to indictate “Don’t leave us! Stop!” Nope, the bus continued to drive away. We didn’t know what to do. I called the bus company using the. Umber on the WhatsApp and the person who answered was not apologetic. Said we weren’t there. Period. Didn’t matter that I was having a medical event. We asked what we were doing to do. Our BELONGINGS were on the bus!! Bus company said we’d have to catch up with the tour at the next stop in Inverness….that the bus would eventually end up at the cathedral in Inverness so to go there. The convenience store staff at Battle of Culloden called a cab for us. The cab driver was astounded that we were left behind and embarrassed saying “I’m so sorry, my countrymen would never treat others like this.” We agreed with him and said Scots had been lovely to us and we did not believe for a moment a Scot would treat a fellow human being in this inhumane way. The bus company people said they didn’t have any way of knowing I was having a medical event. “EXACTLY,” I replied. That is why you do a quick check of restrooms, souvenir shop, and battleground area (the premises were not very vast) to check on your tourists. Good, decent tourist companies do NOT LEAVE TOURISTS STRANDED DURING A TOUR. What if it’d been someone having a heart attack, a seizure, someone with dementia, or autism? In my case I am a senior with a serious chronic health condition, and I did not expect to have an event occur when it did. Several strangers approached me during my near-fainting spell and asked, “are you OK?” And to repeat, we were back at the bus at the designated time at 1:00 pm. And had we been a couple minutes late, kind compassionate human beings do NOT leave tourists stranded at a stop, with their belongings on the bus! Our tour guide’s name was Alyta, and she was responsible for only four English speaking tourists including myself, my friend, and two others from the US. The one other guide was responsible for the rest of the bus load of Spanish speaking tourists. Plus there was a driver. Alyta did not care, was not sorry, said she was just following her company’s rules. It’s one thing if this kind of thing happened by accident and the responsible parties were sorry, but this wasn’t the case! We were left behind intentionally! The next day we took another 12 hour tour to other highland locations (different bus company) and we had a very kind guide who would never have left anyone behind! I watched him as it was time to gather at the bus. He would walk through the bus after every stop to do head counts. At one time I said, “got everyone accounted for?” And he said, “nope, still missing 4 people,” then proceeded to gleefully talk to the people on the bus, tell stories, and patiently wait a few minutes for the last of the passengers to return. It was a most wonderful day, in stark contrast to the tour the prior day with Lochnessbus. This experiences with Lochnessbus co was humiliating and denigrating, and the company should not be allowed to be in business for treating people in this inhumane way.

  • Beautiful but the timing is wrong!

Overall a nice experience, all in all these are places that you must see. The trip itself is beautiful but the organization is unable to manage the times. In the first break you waste more time queuing for the bathroom than anything else (in a service area 3 buses from the same group stop at the same time. The stop in the battlefield is useless, it is a large plain with some Red and blue flags...this time would be more useful to spend in Inverness as 50 minutes for a visit and lunch are very few, and the location deserves a couple of hours. Just as it would be better to have a longer stop in Pitlochry where you have to choose whether to have an ice cream or go for a walk, 30 minutes is not enough!!
