We’ll cover the essentials of Japanese home cooking, including how to cook rice, prepare flavorful dashi broth, and shape perfect onigiri. This class offers a taste of what Japanese families enjoy at home every day. You’ll make three types of onigiri, miso soup, tonkatsu, salmon teriyaki, dashimaki tamago, and a seasonal vegetable side dish.
All ingredients are easy to find outside Japan, so you can recreate these dishes when you return home—perfect for sharing with family and friends.
This hands-on, small-group class also gives you plenty of time to ask questions and enjoy friendly conversation throughout the session.

All recipes are designed so you can easily recreate them at home, using ingredients that are available around the world. We’ll also provide suggestions for alternative ingredients. What You’ll Learn How to prepare dashi broth from scratch How to use dashi to make miso soup How to make dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet) How to fry perfectly golden tonkatsu (pork cutlet) How to make fish teriyaki How to make onigiri (Japanese rice balls) How to prepare a seasonal vegetable side dish Important Notes: Let us know of any allergies or dietary requests (vegetarian, gluten-free, halal) in advance. Ingredients may vary seasonally. Tonkatsu can be made with chicken or tofu if preferred.
