The tour entails a 2-hour hike involving hiking, climbing, and swimming to reach a hidden waterfall nestled in the canyons formed by the lava of the Rincon De La Vieja volcano. The route traverses rocks and rivers with inclines and declines, making it unsuitable for individuals with knee, ankle, or leg issues. For those without mobility problems, including individuals in their 60s or 70s, the activity is relatively easy. Closed shoes are recommended for the hike. Exercise caution with water shoes, as some may have thin soles, potentially causing discomfort towards the end of the excursion. After the hike, we will enjoy an amazing local lunch in the center of Liberia. It’s important to remark that lunch is not included.

The best tour we did while here in Costa Rica. Our guide was Alejandro was fun and experienced! Our pick up driver Fernando was on time and he learned some important tips where to find the nice beaches and where to shop for reasonable groceries even we are in the touristy area.
Incredible tour guide was friendly and welcoming.

Our tour guide was amazing. Our pick up time from our hotel was early in the morning. We did not have a chance to have breakfast or coffee at our resort. Our tour guide was kind enough to stop at a local restaurant/store to grab a quick bite and coffee. He even gave us recommendations on what to get and it was so good! We got to the waterfall before any other tour guides, which was great because it gave us the opportunity to take a bunch of pictures before all the crowds.

The waterfall was beautiful, we hiked, my self and my 61 yo mom. Our tour guide took it nice and easy for my mom. We hiked about 1 mile into the forest to the waterfall and then about 1 mile back to the car. There are places where you will swim. I do recommend a good pair of shoes. I wore chacos and they were fine, but closed toe shoes would have been better. Just make sure it has a thick sole because of the rocky environment. We had a wonderful time and were even able to see a family of monkeys on our hike. I highly recommend this.

For us it was a wonderful excursion into nature, well guided, on land and in the water. The guide was very prudent and together we came to La Leona, fantastically beautiful. No recommendation for children under ten years of age or mobile disabled people, otherwise highly recommended.

The hike is rough but worth it. We wore tennis shoes and it worked out great. Took about 2 hours. We went early so there was only us on the trail. Nice because we didnt feel rushed.

La Leona Waterfall was beautiful and an exciting adventure I will never forget! I want to thank Anthony (driver/ tour guide) and Ignacio/ "Nacho" (tour guide) for make this trip so special! Anthony picked up my cousin and I from our hotel in Reserva Conchal. At the waterfall, we met with Ignacio who guided us on the hike. Our group consisted of eight people who were tourists. Both Anthony and Ignacio are experienced and informative guides. They shared information about the waterfall, animals, as well as Costa Rica. In addition, they pointed out animals throughout the hike. We saw different types of butterflies, lizards, and bats. Also, Anthony was kind and offered to take pictures during the hike so you would not have to worry about your phone. Anthony did recommend to take at least one phone per group so that you can take more pictures if needed. I am not the best hiker or swimmer, but I was able to complete the hike. The most challenging part was swimming against the current near the waterfall. Anthony and Ignacio were helpful and assured you made it to the waterfall safely. The hike took about three hours to complete. After the hike, we ate at a local restaurant that was tasty. On our way back to the hotel, Anthony made a stop at a store that he recommended for reasonably priced souvenirs. Anthony and Ignacio were remarkable tour guides. I feel their personalities really shined made this trip unique. I am very glad I booked this trip and I would definitely book this trip again. Thank you Anthony and Ignacio for the unforgettable experience! ¡ PURA VIDA ! Side notes: -I definitely recommend applying sunscreen and bug spray before the hike. -The hike is easier if you carry fewer items. If you choose to bring stuff on the hike, use a dry-bag because you will be swimming in the river. Fortunately, we were able to leave our items in the van. -I also recommend wearing shoes that you can hike and swim in.

Highlight of our trip! Definitely don't miss this natural beauty. Breathtaking. Anthony our guide was wonderful...he shared so much knowledge during the drive and the hike. Absolutely great for teenagers...our 3 had a blast. Fantastic day.

Was an amazing experience! The hike up to the waterfall was a bit slippery due to rain a few days before but our tour guide made the best of it and helped us all the way to the waterfall and back. We even ended up coming across different plants that had some very pleasant smells on the way! 10/10! Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to the Guanacaste area!

Highly recommend, physically challenging but Doable. You will get wet and dirty - bring a change of dry clothes. You will be given an opportunity to change after: guides were fantastic , the water felt good and refreshing after being hot hiking . The waterfall is absolutely beautiful.

Absolutely wonderful. Our group on 7/12/25 was great - we even chose to extend the tour. The waterfall experience was absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend this tour! Pro-tip: Buy a drybag - you won't regret it!
