Discover the oldest parts of Madrid and stop at some of our favourite heritage taverns to try the house dish in each of them, including the best croquettes in the entire city! Stroll around the trendy neighbourhood of La Latina and soak up the historic vibes and breathtaking architecture of the old city centre too.

Can children join the tour? This experience is designed for adults and older children. Unfortunately, children under the age of 6 are not permitted to join the tour.
Can the tour accommodate dietary restrictions? This tour was thoughtfully designed to offer a well-balanced local tapas experience. While we aim to be inclusive, some of the traditional establishments we visit may have limited flexibility in catering to specific dietary needs.
Is the tour suitable for vegetarians or those with food intolerances? The tour is suitable for vegetarians, as well as guests who are lactose-free or gluten-free (non-celiac). If you have any dietary requirements, please let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
How many food stops are included on this tour? We’ll visit five delicious tasting stops, each offering a unique flavor of Madrid—from traditional taverns to bustling market stalls.
Will the itinerary always be the same? We aim to follow a thoughtfully curated route, but sometimes we may adjust the itinerary based on the opening hours or crowd levels at certain bars and restaurants. Rest assured, any changes made will still reflect the same high standard of quality and authenticity—you won’t miss out!
How much walking is involved in the tour? This tour covers approximately 1.6 km (1 mile) of walking through Madrid’s vibrant streets. The pace is relaxed, with plenty of stops along the way, but we do recommend wearing comfortable shoes.

Your tapas adventure kicks off in Plaza de la Villa, one of Madrid’s oldest squares. Start with a taste of the city’s rich history and its love affair with tapas!
Mercado San Miguel
Next, we head to Mercado de San Miguel—Spain’s first gourmet market—for our first tasting. We’ll kick things off with a classic aperitivo: a glass of vermouth or Spanish wine, paired with expertly aged Spanish cheese from one of the market’s top stalls. A delicious start!

5.00This was an excellent way to spend an evening - not only did our first-rate guide, Patricia, take us to a series of very interesting venues which served us a large variety of very tasty tapas to eat and local beverages to drink, she also provided an insight into the history of the places we visited and the cultural history of Nadrid.

5.00This is a fantastic tour and introduction to Madrid/Spain and the food scene. We had an incredible time with our wonderful leader Aafke. She was very knowledgable and gave us insight into the history of the city as well as their restaurants and bars. We couldn’t recommend this tour or Aafke more highly!!

5.00A wonderful night out experiencing delicious flavours of Madrid and sampling some unique drinks of the region - outstanding experience inspite of some rain. Warm & cosy inside with friendly hosts passionate about their craft. Amazing history and city sights by night. Aafke was an amazing guide and made some wonderful additional recommendations for our stay in Madrid

5.00I'm a solo traveller from Canada. A few cancellations that Saturday evening meant I got a solo foodie experience with my guide, Aafke. She took care to better understand what my interests were, and it was great to have that one-on-one time to chat with someone who was clearly passionate about Spanish food culture and the lifestyle of Madrid. I liked her suggestion to encourage other travellers to take the foodie tour on day one or day two of their itinerary - that way you can return to whichever spots you liked the most, or try some others that your guide suggests along the way. I can't wait to try an Intrepid Urban Adventure in the next city I visit!

5.00We were a group of four friends on our second last night in Madrid. The tapas tour with Aafke exceeded our expectations. We visited five different tapas restaurants where we tasted beautiful selections made by Aafke with an accompanying drink in each destination. Aafke was very knowledgeable regarding the history side of the Madrid destinations. She was a lot of fun while sharing her local knowledge with us all. We would highly recommend this tour as a ‘not to be missed’ when in Madrid.

5.00This tapas walking tour was great, Aafke was fantastic, so knowledgeable & fun, we thoroughly enjoyed the food, the company & hearing history of all the places we visited. It was easy to find the pick-up point & the walk was at an easy pace, we could savour the atmosphere at all the areas as we walked.

5.00The tapas tour is incredible! The range of tapas are delicious and i loved learning the history and culture of Madrid's culinary scene in between some of the city's best flavors. Above all, Aafke is a wonderful guide who brought wit, vivacity, and deep knowledge to the tour. This tour is a must if you're visiting Madrid.
