Corinth Canal
Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. The canal was initially proposed in classical times and a failed effort was made to build it in the 1st century AD. The canal was dug through the isthmus at sea level and has no locks. It is 6.4 kilometres (4 mi) in length and only 21.4 metres (70 ft) wide at its base, making it impassable for many modern ships. It is currently of little economic importance becoming mainly a tourist attraction. From the bridge, you can enjoy wonderful views and admire the steep limestone walls while you observe the vessels passing by the narrow canal.
Archaeological Site Mycenae
Mycenae 'Rich in Gold', the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon—first sung by Homer in his epics—is the most important and richest palatial centre of the Late Bronze Age in Greece. Its name was given to one of the greatest civilisations of Greek prehistory, the Mycenaean civilisation. The site, which is inscribed in the World Heritage List since 1999, preserves the imposing ruins of the city that dominated the eastern Mediterranean world from the 15th to the 12th century B.C. and played a vital role in the development of classical Greek culture. Mycenae was founded between two tall conical hills, Profitis Ilias and Sara, on a low plateau dominating the Argive plain and controlling both the land and sea routes. The archaeological site comprises the fortified acropolis and the surrounding funerary and habitation sites, which are located mainly to its west and southwest. Most of the visible monuments date to the centre's great prosperity period, from 1350 to 1200 BC.

Everything was lovely! Our driver Anthony was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. His recommendations were right on point to manage time perfectly. We were in Greece for only 2 days, chose this as our first tour and greatly enjoyed it! Thanks Crispy Local team.

This trip was amazing! We were excited to see the Peloponnesian area and this trip was the perfect choice. The theater and ancient baths at Epidauris were amazing as was Mycenea where the castle/fortress and views were incredible. And Nafplio was a beautiful town, I wish we'd had more time there (and lunch was fabulous!) Melina was a fantastic guide she was so incredibly knowledgeable about both the history of Greece as well as all the locations we visited. She ensured we all had as much information as we desired. When we were on our own, inside the ruins, sites, etc, she gave us very detailed instructions on what to look for. We learned so much about Greek history as well as some of the mythology. She was a pleasure to spend the day with!

Driver Anthony picked us from hotel entrance (albeit 1 hour earlier by mistake but kindly offered to return later) and drove north out of Athens’ morning jam. Along the way he pointed out places of interest and explained the timeline of Ancient Greek history. Our first stop was to view the amazing Corinth Canal completed in 1893. The 6.4 km man-made canal had steep sides with clear green blue water joining the Ionian and Aegean Seas. Next was the hike up the steep Mycaena acropolis with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and the nearby bee hive tomb (Treasury of Atreus - someone in another tour group sang a spine chilling Hallelujah inside). Then on to the 13000+ seater Epidaurus Theatre (another climb!) and the extensive archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Asclepius. Enroute to Nafplio, Anthony dropped us off at a local Farmers Market (very enjoyable bonus!) as I had earlier voiced an interest in the local orchards we drove past. Lunched at a seafood tavern and ate gelato wandering around the picturesque Nafplio with its fortress, seafront and quaint buildings.
