Oak Alley Plantation

Experience a bygone era in one of the South's most beautiful settings - Oak Alley Plantation, built in 1839. Marvel at the unbelievable quarter-mile long alley of 28 magnificent Oak trees, each over 250 years old. Perhaps the most photographed plantation ever, Oak Alley has been the setting for such motion pictures as "Interview with a Vampire", "Primary Colors" and the wedding of Bo and Hope from the daytime soap opera, "Days of our Lives". Your guided Oak Valley Plantation tour will reveal the stories of the home and its history. View the Majestic Cypress Trees in Louisiana's swamps bordering the Mississippi River. You can purchase a snack, salad or sandwich in the Cafe and Ice Cream Parlor to enjoy at the picnic tables or aboard the coach (not included in price).

Overall it was a good experience. I was glad that I selected the shorter tour. I think the full day tour would have been too long with not enough to do. The beginning was a little rushed after being dropped off with only 10 minutes for a bathroom break and to make our way across the plantation to be on time to start the tour we were pre-scheduled for. After that tour was over, i felt we had sufficient free time to walk around, take pictures, visit the general store and out buildings and see the rest of the grounds. The property was very pretty and easy to walk around. The staff were pleasant. There wasn’t a lot of talk about the sugar plantation, it was more focused on the family who owned it. There was a hut with a video about the sugar process you could watch. On the bus ride, the driver gave some kind of narrated tour. I didn’t care to listen and had my earbuds in, so I can’t weigh in on the content. The restaurant was closed and the “cafe” was similar looking to the sandwich section at the gas station. It was a pass for me, but others were eating and not complaining.
