The Italian Chapel
The Italian Chapel was originally built by Italian prisoners of war (POWs) during World War II. In 1942, approximately 1200 Italian POWs were brought to Orkney to work on the construction of the Churchill Barriers, a series of causeways built to protect the naval base at Scapa Flow from enemy attacks. The Italian prisoners, many of whom were skilled artisans, created the chapel using the materials available to them, such as scrap metal, wood, and concrete, as well as their own creativity and resourcefulness. The Italian Chapel is not only a piece of art but also a symbol of hope and resilience. During the war, the chapel provided the Italian POWs with a place of solace and spiritual refuge. Despite the harsh conditions of captivity, they poured their heart and soul into building the chapel

5.00Our guide, Dean, was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make our tour special. When our niece wasn't feeling well, he drove her back to the port. He asked what I was interested in after the main portion of the tour completed and took me to experience a local shop that I was interested in seeing. He provided real-life stories, and we shared our backgrounds and experiences. It was my favorite tour in a 12-day cruise.

5.00If you’re looking for a rigid itinerary with monotone commentary this is not the tour for you. If you love having an unexpected day full of beauty, culture, genuine and interesting conversation then hopefully you will get Duncan as your driver. Yes, we hit the highlighted spots but we also had the best pies “my husband had three!” at a local shop and enjoyed a fabulous tour of a working mill. Amazing! I was able to purchase a locally handmade spurtle and we purchased several of the baked goods from the mill. All which we are enjoying right now with our coffee as we write this! An unforgettable day and hope to go back and visit that pie shop!!!! Its name is not yet on the store. Front but while we were there another couple showed up and they had resented a car and returned just for the pies after having visited in the past. If you get a chance to experience the Orkneys you must find this shop!

5.00Kenny was our tour guide. This island is his home and it's obvious that he knows and loves it. He took us everywhere we wanted to go and more. He listened to what we were interested in and showed us the island from our perspective! Awesome experience!

4.00I would have rated it a 5 because our guide Donna was amazing, but there was an issue with the company itself that was not the best experience. Apparently there was a driver change and our new driver hadn’t been made aware of it until the morning of our tour. We were scheduled to be picked up between 8-9am at our ship and our guide didn’t arrive until almost 10am. I tried multiple times to contact the company to no avail and even the cruise terminal employees were attempting to make contact with no luck. We were never contacted back from the company to reassure us that our tour was still a go. It all worked out in the end and we had a great experience from that point. Nothing against our guide Donna. She was tens! Hopefully it was just a one-off thing. Things happen and I get it.
