1. The Acropolis of Athens is a rocky hill 156 meters above sea level and approximately 70 meters above the level of the city of Athens. The Parthenon is a temple built in honor of the goddess Athena, patroness of the city of Athens. Τhe architects who worked were Iktinos, Kallikratis, and possibly Phidias (5th century BC). Finally, we will see the Erechtheion with the famous Karyatidis and the Propylaea.

Parthenon

The Parthenon is a temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron. Its construction began in 447 BC and was completed in 438 BC, although decorations of the Parthenon continued until 432 BC. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, generally considered to be the culmination of the development of the Doric order. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art.

We booked this tour to fill the space from our cruise disembarkation until our room was ready for check in, and I’m so glad we did! Our guide was Andreas and he seemed to know everyone in Athens (which was a good thing!). He timed our tour perfectly to where we didn’t have to wait in any lines, and we were able to store our five big bags in the van while we toured the city. Perfect option for anyone looking for a way to fill time either pre or post cruise!

Book it! Book it now with Andreas as your driver! After a long flight I was met inside the terminal to begin my private tour. Andreas was the best guide/driver I had in all of Europe. He is a very professional driver and has a passion for the history of his city. His expertise is second to none! Next time I am in Athens I will be using this tour again!
