  Master Sumida is very knowledgable of not only swordsmanship, but also samurai cultures and traditions as well. In this class you learn about the construction, application, history, and use of the katana. He has an excellent eye for safety and will make sure you leave better than you entered the dojo.

  I highly recommend the Bizenkai Samarai class Sumida sensei offers a multi-faceted holistic approach to teaching Japanese swordsmanship. It is truly a mind body & spiritual experience. The class was one of the most informative, engaging and enjoyable classes that I have attended. The class content exactly matches the class overview mentioned in the advertisement. The mock duel to practise moves of offence and defence was particularly fun. Sensei is a very disciplined, skilled and thorough master of swords, but more than that he is a personable and passionate teacher and cultural ambassador. It was an honour to be a part of his class.

  Yoshioki Sumida is a real master of sword, who introduced us to the word of Japanese martial arts. It was an unforgettable experience, grateful for this opportunity.

  Sumida sensei is the real deal. Samurai training doesn't come more real than this class. We learned history, we learned how to assemble and disassemble a sword. We sparred, and we cut. I even plan on resuming my training in White Plains, come March. So I can TRULY understand the sharpness of the Japanese sword!

  This class was an amazing experience to practice and better understand Japanese swords and Samurai culture. I loved every minute and would highly recommend- great instructor!
