The park is the site of large white chalk rock formations, created through erosion by wind and sand. It is also the site of cliffs (at the northern end of the Farafra Depression), sand dunes (part of the Great Sand Sea), as well as Wadi Hennis and oases at Ain El Maqfi and Ain El Wadi. This is a wonderful tour to see the stuff you don't see on the package tours. Adventure! Riding through the desert in 4WD vehicles, dodging ancient windswept sandstone sculpted by nature - it's like being in a video game! The camping is very basic - no toilets in the white desert (so ladies be prepared for that). The Ahmed Safari lodge is beautiful, comfortable and clean. Meals were generous. Visits to the English House and around the oasis were really interesting. I would thoroughly recommend this tour!

My partner and I did the 2 night, 3 day tour, where you spend one night sleeping under the stars in the desert and the second in the Ahmed Safari Hotel. We had Hazam as our guide, who was absolutely great. He’s friendly, a great conversationalist, a good driver and has very deep knowledge of the desert, from the history and geology, to the local towns and cities, to the best off-roading spots and sunrise camping areas. By the end of the trip, our 5-person group (4 total visitors plus Hazam) felt like we’d known each other for years. Thank you Hazam for an unforgettable experience.

Overall we enjoyed the tour. Guides did a great job driving in the desert and took us to lots of cool spots and set up a nice camp. Tour was organized well and guides always ready to help if needed. Black and white desert especially are breathtaking and Crystal mountain was beautiful. Warm springs were just manmade pools and some of them not working. We were also disappointed in sandboarding, the boards were really old and didn't have any straps left so we could only sit down on them. Bbq chicken dinner was really overcooked and dry and our tent door was broken. In the end we were really pushed to give tips for everyone. Also, we had booked 2 night trip and stayed 2nd night in the hotel. It looks great in the photos but is very run down. I wouldn't recommend doing a 2 night trip, there wasn't much else to see. Our second tour guide had no idea what he was talking about even though he had gone to a very good university. He drew us a world map in the sand and explained how a dinosaur on top of the Pyramid mountain could see a comet coming but not smell it and that's why he died before the other dinosaur who died a bit later when the whole world went dark for 2 months.

Day 1 was long drive from Cairo to hotel and fast paced and lots of activities lined up. Highlights included Black Desert, White Desert, and Crystal Mountain. Lots of interesting geological formations and processes. Camping in the White Desert was fun for the most part. The sunset and sun rise was the perfect photo op. The meal portion was large (enough for two people) but quality could use some improvement. However, a wind storm came through and whipped up sand that forced us to our tents early - almost immediately after dinner. All camping necessities were provided but uncertain if the sleeping bags were cleaned after every use. The night was cold but the sleeping bag was warm. A mattress and heavy blanket was provided. I used the blanket as a pillow. I suggest you bring warm clothing during this time of the year, baby wipes, and flash light. Any items related to camping for creature comfort is recommended. Day 2 and 3 was slow paced. Day 2 returned from camping. Assigned a hotel room, assigned a hotel room, lunch, and started local tour in the afternoon. The local tour was less impressive but intriguing nevertheless. Highlights included the English House, lava field, sand dunes, palm grooves, salt lake, local market, and the local community. Be advised, the local community is visibly under-developed as expected from a third-world country. The day ended with a request for the tour guide (Mahmoud) to have dinner and shisha at a local restaurant. The meal and shisha was good but really enjoyed a great conversation with Mahmoud. Thanks my friend! The hotel room was cozy and clean. Although the heater didn’t work, the blanket kept warm throughout the night. Hot water was available and really feels great washing all the sand off your body. Day 3 woke up to breakfast and preparation to be transported back on the long trip to Cairo. Don’t expect any fancy food. It’s good to fill you up if you look past the bland taste. Wi-Fi did not work for the duration of the entire trip. Improvements: - Although the provided meals portions were good the quality could be improved and served hot. -WiFi should be available at all times. Applauded: - Hospitality was amazing from all staff members. Thanks you Ezz, Mahmoud, and Amir. - Movement coordination was good. Advice: There are sharp rocks in the spring water pool. Be careful about jumping into the pool. You may cut your foot like I did.
