The windmill village Zaanse Schans is an open air museum that houses a collection of working windmills, wooden houses, barns and shops dating back to the 18th and 19th Century. All these buildings were brought here from 1961 on, bringing back to life this most prosperous period of the Zaan region.

1.00The meeting point was impossible to find — I spent almost an hour around Amsterdam Central asking people, as the map share location was wrong. I’m not local and had no way to contact anyone. I missed the trip, lost two tickets, and they refused to refund me. Very disappointing and frustrating.

2.00We had great difficulty hearing our guide who often left us in her wake. In the village we lost her completely. The focus of the tour was too much towards the clog and cheese factories and we were wanting far greater emphasis on windmills

5.00Prepare for any type of weather but being there is fantastic Visiting the old windmill towns is worth the entire trip
