Brussels and Bruges are definitely a must and I would encourage other travelers to visit those two cities as a day trip from Paris (time permitting), but definitely NOT with this company Amigos Tour. Very bad experience! They put us in a very old bus with no A/C and it was a very warm day. Spending several hours on the road with no A/C was a torture. The guide, although very nice and well-intentioned, does not provide any context, details or history of the places being visited. He takes you there, and brings you back to the bus, making sure people are not lost or left behind, always striving for punctuality. But he is not a professional tour guide in the strict sense of it. We were left clueless, on our own to guess which monument was what, their history, and purpose. Our tour was supposed to be in English, but very little English was spoken, only the bare minimum. Luckily, we also understand Spanish so we could get the main points across, but it was definitely NOT a tour in English. What bothered me the most is that the guide favored and prioritized stopping and spending time at "recommended" retail or dining places (where he probably may get some gratification or sales commission from the owner/ manager) rather than what is in the best interest of the travelers. For instance, in Bruges we had a very short stay and limited time to visit the sights and the monuments, but rather the guide prioritized spending more than 45 minutes at this chocolate store of his liking, and held the entire group there until everybody had finished shopping. He did not give people the option to go elsewhere and be back at a meeting point. I tried to rush him to move on or at least give me a meeting point and time so that I could explore Bruges on my own, but he refused to do it. As a consequence, we all missed the precious opportunity to visit the Basilica of the Holy Blood, an unique experience in Bruges, because it closed down while we were all stuck with the guide in the chocolate shop. He could even have changed the order in which we would visit the places, favoring the sites first and the shop later, but he chose not to do it because he already had an appointment at the store for the tour group to shop (and to get his commission). I have taken other day trips from Paris, with other companies, and they were great experiences, so please shop around well and choose your tour company wisely. There are some very good ones, but based on my experience AMIGOS in NOT one of them. I was supposed to take another tour with them to Saint Michel and D-Day beaches, but cancelled right away after this subpar experience.

Both Brussels and Burgess are beautiful but the tour was the worst I’ve ever been. Our tour guide Anna talked 20% of the time, very poor in communicating her plans, she just walked ahead of everyone. And whenever she gives information about anything, it’s 80% in Spanish/French (no clue what the other language was) and 20% in English. The 3 hours we spent in Brussels is basically walking to her “recommended chocolate store” and her “recommended restaurant” where all 12 of us have a reserved table when we got there. Just imagine the wasted time we spent waiting for everyone to finish. We didn’t get the chance to sit outside and enjoy the sun. It would have been better if we were allowed to explore the city centre and eat whatever we want. Feels like a tourist trap.

Read until the end, please. I took the “Belgium from Paris: Discover the Wonders of Brussels and Bruges” tour with Amigo Tours Spain on December 26, 2004, and had a wonderful experience visiting both cities. The tour guide, Anna, was excellent—extremely knowledgeable, patient, and kind. She went out of her way to ensure that everyone felt welcome and informed throughout the journey. The bus driver was also fantastic—friendly, pleasant, and skillful, making the long ride very comfortable. However, I had a disappointing experience at one of the tour’s designated restaurant stops, Brasserie Ommegang AUTHENTIC BELGIAN BRASSERIE. The service there was unacceptable. I ordered a well-done burger without any sauces, but the first attempt came out medium rare. I politely sent it back, and the second attempt, while slightly better cooked, was covered in sauces I specifically asked to avoid. When I explained the issue again, the waitress became visibly frustrated, rudely suggested I “wipe the sauce off,” and walked away without resolving the problem. When she finally returned, she refused to let me change my order, claiming it was “too expensive to keep making” and that I would hold up my group if I ordered something else. Her behavior was unprofessional, and I was left without a proper meal at what was supposed to be an enjoyable stop. Anna kindly apologized for the situation, but it was disappointing that the restaurant staff made me feel as though their mistakes were my fault. I highly recommend Amigo Tours Spain and this tour overall, but I urge them to reconsider Brasserie Ommegang as a designated stop. Such poor service detracts from an otherwise wonderful experience.

The tour guide was shy, inexperienced and not very well prepared. The tour was not planned very good as well. Some problems: 1) Did not have enough time in Brussels and did not cover important milestone such as European parliament. In contrary, we are given three hours in Burges which in tour guide's own word can be finished in 1 hour. So literally wastage of 2 hours. 2) The tour was offered in two languages, and so one group of speaker was waiting while others are listening. 3) The guide did not hold any flags are something like that, so he was very difficult to locate the guide and people tend to miss him 4) It was long bus and tourguide was not using microphone anytime. Imagine, a tour guide is not bilingual which was not well managed, neither using microphone, is sort of terrible idea.
