Travelers will take of from Hilo Airport where they will fly directly to the volcanoes national park. Along the way they will see orchid farms and lush native forest that are in large part only found on big island. The volcanoes national park gives breathtaking views of lava flows both old and new.

Did not fly into the caldera

Firstly the captain Drew was really nice and we learnt so much. However we did not go into the caldera and did not see the Kilauea eruption which is actively happening because of cloud cover which kind of defeated the whole purpose of this trip. I don’t think this should be labelled as a Volcanoes National Park Safari tour given that we didn’t see it during the best possible time to see it. I’m not honestly sure anyone gets to actually see the volcano. I wish I’d read other reviews before booking. I could have just hiked there.
Disappointed we booked this excursion.

Unfortunately, we paid a lot of money to see the ocean instead of what we paid for, volcanoes. There were four in our family group and each paid $379 to see something we didn't want to see. We are some disappointed and will not recommend this excursion to anyone else. This was not a good start to our vacation to Hawaii.

Our family had a very disappointing experience with Safari Helicopters in Hilo. We clearly requested and confirmed our flight for Monday, August 4, 2025, but on arrival we were told it had been booked for the following day, even though our emails clearly showed the correct date. The error completely disrupted our trip — we had to rearrange our plans, drive more than three hours unnecessarily, missed out on other activities we’d scheduled, and incurred extra costs. Even after showing written proof, Safari Helicopters refused to take responsibility or offer a fair solution. Their response was dismissive and unhelpful, which was very disappointing after the effort and expense we’d put in. If you’re thinking of booking with them, make sure to double-check all correspondence and dates before confirming payment. Based on our experience, I would not recommend Safari Helicopters.

The staff is wonderful. The pilot was great and very knowledgeable. But keep in mind that not all the seats on the helicopter have good visibility.

Great experience! We took our kids which are 14, 11 and 6. The staff at the building were amazing and made everyone feel so welcomed. The pilot, Jim, was great! He was full of information and flew the helicopter perfectly. By the time it was over we felt like we flew with our family and friends. The views of the active volcano were perfect that day with perfect weather. Highly recommend this experience for everyone. Thank you Safari! We would do it again!

Spectacular way to see Hawaii. Our pilot was the best, providing narration, views and history all in one flight. The ground staff was top notch and very accommodating. A must do if you're in Hilo.

What a bunch of kind and knowledgeable people! We had to reschedule a couple of times due to weather but they were extremely kind, knowledgeable and helpful! I definitely recommend this company!
