The Choquequirao ruins were most likely built during the reign of the Inca king, Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui. They are considered to be the last bastion of resistance and refuge of the Sons of the Sun, who fled from the city of Cusco when it was under siege in 1535. Led by Manco Inca Yupanqui, they took refuge in Choquequirao. Presumably, the place was used as both a check point to access the Vilcabamba Area, and as a cultural and religious centre.

Exceptional experience, discovering a wonderful archaeological site, and in contact with nature and local communities. Our guide Raul made the trek exciting by explaining the history of the site to us and organizing everything perfectly. Physically demanding trek, but worth it! Thanks Raul, thanks Choquequirao, thanks Pachamama!

Incredible trek to Choquequirao. Such an amazing experience and some of the best views I’ve ever seen. My guide Raul made the experience very entertaining and informative throughout the 4 days. The ruins themselves were amazing had no idea how big the place is. It’s a difficult hike but soo worth it in the end.

They organized for us transport to the main entrance to trekking pass to Choquequerio, and it was good driver. And good price 600 soles for all both ways. I like it and recommend because of our driver was always in time. For the trekking actually you didn’t need to rent equipment because in Chiquisa and Maranpata have everything to rent. So you don’t need to carry anything, we was only one tourist with own trekking things haha. Good luck, and use here the transport for choquequerio trek, it is worth it.
