Your experience starts at our Meeting Point, next to S. Bento Station and you will meet your guide that will drive you to the Amarante, our first stop. On your way to the Douro Region, your guide will give you insights regarding the Portuguese history, development and cultural facts of portuguese heritage.
Amarante
Amarante, our first stop, features the majestic Serra do Marão and the river Tâmega, which flows through the city and adds charm to its picturesque houses. The city, possibly founded by the Roman centurion Amarantus, links the provinces of Minho and Trás-os-Montes. In the 13th century, St. Gonçalo, a Benedictine monk and the city's patron saint, built a bridge over the Tâmega. Amarante is also renowned for its sweets, including papos de anjo, brisas do Tâmega, toucinho do céu, bolos de São Gonçalo, and galhofas, which can be found in local cake-shops and cafés.

Energetic, friendly, funny, knowledgable, professional guide and competent driver. Amarante was a nice stop with just time for a few photos and famous pastries. The Douro valley landscapes were stunning; the 45-minute river cruise was peaceful and breezy. Lunch was good (delicious dessert), with a great view. The port tasting was good in a beautiful "barn", although I thought we would be able to walk around some of the vineyards. The highlight was the Miradouro de Sao Leonardo de Galafura! The whole tour was enjoyable and great value for money.

The trip inclusions were promising but was expedited poorly. The first stop was fine as was the Porte tasting but the bus seemed to have lost air conditioning so it was extremely warm especially when no water is provided and you are in the vehicle for one to two hours at a time. The boat ride was very disappointing. Again very hot and there was no access to beverages. We were all willing to pay for beer or water but staff said it wasn’t available. Staff was lucky that none of us suffered from heat stroke. In addition we never visited the second winery that was listed as part of the tour. Sadly we paid a lot of money to be in a bus for at least 5 hours of the tour with no air or water and didn’t even get the whole tour we paid for. Very disappointing Lunch how were was very good.

Tour guide was amazing and made us laugh a lot! As for the tour in general, the AC was out in the van and it was unbearable in the heat. We were also told we would be able to purchase beverages on the boat portion of the tour, and this was not true (tour guide did not join us for this portion, it was just the employees for the boat present). We also skipped the final winery, which we were all confused about, but were too hot to even ask or want to go at that point.
