Fondation Claude Monet
Begin your day by boarding your comfortable, air-conditioned private bus in central Paris. Once inside, you’ll meet your tour co-ordinator, a local expert who’ll accompany you throughout your trip to provide you with insights and stories about the sites you’ll visit. Your first stop is the Fondation Claude Monet in the village of Giverny. After a brief but fact-packed orientation tour, you’ll be free to explore the Impressionist master’s estate at your leisure using a convenient self-guided audio app. The house has been restored to how it was when Monet himself lived and worked there, and many features of the estate are familiar from his great works – like the ponds carpeted in luscious water lilies.
Palace of Versailles
Then it’s a short bus ride from Giverny to Versailles, where an official palace guide will escort you past the line, directly into the Sun King’s opulent seat of power. With over 700 rooms and 2,000 acres of gardens, Versailles is magnificent inside and out. You’ll see highlights like the Hall of Mirrors and Salon of Abundance, fountains and secret garden groves, and an art collection to rival the finest museums. In keeping with the surroundings, the royals and courtiers who populated Versailles at its height were larger than life; your guide will share some of the wildest moments of the palace’s history.

It was really busy and very warm with so many people in both houses. All the fountains were off and too hot to really explore the gardens. There was not enough golf carts to tour the gardens. The trip was probably 1.5 hours too long. Guides were good. Water on the bus would have been good. No original art or furniture in either place.

Monet’s Gardens was wonderful with the self guard tour. Our guide on the bus filled us in on what we were about to see. The guide at Versailles was very knowledgeable about French history and art. Really appreciated her input. The only thing I would suggest is that the guides wear bright colors so they are easily found in the masses of people that visit.

The trip to Giverny was great. Our guide was Hendricks. He was pleasant and gave informative info and showed photos to small groups on the bus to and from Giverny. Seeing inside Monet’s house was wonderful, the gardens were lovely. Hendricks left our group before we traveled to Versailles to pickup a different guide. The trip to Versailles was nice. However, our new guide, Frederick was not so nice! Once we got into the palace, had a restroom stop, etc. we had an unpleasant issue with Frederick. My sister and I are in our late 70’s and were already tired from the Monet tour. We asked if we could use the lift to go up to the level where the tour would begin. Frederick was rude and said there were no lifts (we knew there were lifts for wheelchairs, etc) and he told us “this is a walking tour and we would walk like they did in the old days of Versailles.” I use a cane and walk slower than most of the group. We fell behind and Frederick came back to get us, we told him we were having difficulty keeping up with the group, he asked for our headsets and we were left on our own. We did ok on our own and were happy not to see Frederick again on our bus ride back to Paris.
