Pass through the lively outdoor Fruit and Vegetable Market, get a taste of Livornese life and follow the inviting smell of traditional delights. Try the local authentic street food such us frate and scagliozzi and learn about its interesting history. Then proceed to the the historic Central Market - Mercato delle Vettovaglie, an impressive building designed in the 19th century and one of the biggest covered market in Europe. Enjoy the happy chaos of the vendors, lose yourself in the overwhelming smells of this beautiful place and discover authentic products that reflect Livorno's multicultural past. Are you ready for a deliciuos bruschetta with extravirgin oil and a glass of tuscan wine? Well here we go! You will then walk over to the fish market where your guide will explain the differences between the various types of local seafood. Continue your gastronomic adventure in a typical Torteria, where many local people go for their lunch break. Taste a specialty known as torta di ceci, a kind of pancake made from chick peas and traditionally served in bread with a glass of spuma. Its curious name referring to the original value, 5 cents of cake and 5 cents of bread. End your cultural food tour with a must in culinary tradition of the city. Stop in a bar and try the real ponce alla livornese, a legendary local drink made with coffee and rum. Apparently adapted from traditions taken from the Anglo-Saxon population of Livorno, it expresses the energy and passion of local people. This was a surprisingly wonderful tour. Lisa (our guide) was a pleasure and not only did we get to eat wonderful treats and have delicious drinks but her knowledge of the area and history was exemplary. We are So glad that we did this tour.

At this cruise stop, we decided not to make the trek into Firenze and instead see what Livorno had to offer. We loved our tour with Lisa - we tried several local traditional foods and learned a bit of history along the way. We don’t drink alcohol and were fine with just skipping those samples, but they made sure we were offered juice or Coke in substitution. Everyone in our group agreed it was one of the best days we’ve had!

Laila is was amazing and informative and the food and drinks were delicious. Laila also made sure the person in our group who is gluten free had access to things to try as well. Our best tour on our two week vacation!!!!

We were in Livorno on a cruise ship and decided against taking a tour to one of the more well-known cities in the hinterland but instead stay right there in Livorno. The food and market tour with Leila made it all so well worth it! We saw churches and canals and markets and had a chance to taste an array of very special snacks and drinks. The best part, however, was having Leila on our side who felt like a good friend from the very first moment. Thank you, Leila, for a very memorable half day in Livorno (and for the great suggestion to cycle the lungomare in the afternoon)!

Our tour guide gave me and my wife and very great experience! She’s was so knowledgeable and friendly! We saw the local spots of Livorno, walked along the coast, ate and drank lots of great local favorites. Best tour guide of any tour I ever been on!!! HIGHLY recommend! Livorno has a piece of my heart

This food tour was excellent and Laila our guide was amazing. She showed us more than just the food market and was full of knowledge about the town and history. She was lovely to be around, it felt like we were old friends having a lovely afternoon wandering around town. The food was amazing and Laila knew so many people at the food market that we weee treated like royalty and had the best experience. I can’t recommend this tour and Laila enough!
