Te Au Moana Luau
Te Au Moana, translated as the ocean tide, has always been a constant throughout Oceania, connecting our islands, peoples and generations. As Hawaii’s premier entertainment company, Tihati Productions endeavors to bring these stories to life at “Te Au Moana: The Ocean Tide”. We invite you to dine as the ocean sits peacefully before you, as it has for thousands of years. As a group of six travelers hoping to celebrate New Year's Eve in Maui, we set our sights on the Te Au Moana Luau, drawn by its reputation and the promise of premium seating. We booked through Viator in August for a 4 p.m. show, expecting a smooth experience and a festive night. What followed, however, was a rollercoaster that mixed anticipation, stress, and frustration—largely due to the shockingly rude customer service we encountered. Our reservation with Viator was straightforward. The app always showed 4 p.m. premium seating, and our tickets were clearly confirmed. We arrived on Maui a few days before the event, confident in our plans On December 27th, I received an email from Tihati Productions, which at first glance appeared routine, confirming our date. But then, two days later came a text saying our table was number 40 for the 9 p.m. showing—an entirely different time and standard seating, not the premium experience we had booked. This was not just inconvenient, it was impossible for us to attend due to health reasons. I called the number that had texted me, searching for answers. The woman who answered initially sounded as if she might help, but as soon as I explained the situation and pointed out the mistake, her attitude soured. She cut me off repeatedly, refusing to listen or let me fully explain. It was clear she was uninterested in actually resolving my problem—instead, she insisted Viator had changed the reservation (which I knew wasn't true) and was dismissive of my concerns. When I tried to clarify, she became even more abrupt. At one point, she made sure to tell me our call was being recorded, delivering it in a way that came across as a thinly-veiled threat rather than standard procedure. After promising to investigate and call me back, she ended the call, leaving me upset and without answers. Reviewing the their email from the 27th , I saw it also listed our booking as 9 p.m. standard seating. Wanting to document the issue and escalate, I replied via email, attaching a screenshot of my ticket. Unfortunately, her tone in writing was just as nasty as it was on the phone—rude, dismissive, and wholly unhelpful. For two days, her attitude and lack of assistance added significantly to my stress and anxiety, making me regret planning the whole thing. By New Year’s Eve, after no follow-up from her, I contacted Viator and was told my original reservation was intact and advised to attend at 4 p.m. On arrival, the staff at the event itself were far more pleasant—thankfully, they managed to find us a premium table, just as our tickets promised. It turns out other groups faced similar mishaps, but the event team did their best to accommodate everyone affected. The luau itself was enjoyable, with lively performances and engaging storytelling. Our seating was in the premium and they did provide that. The food, particularly the pork and prime rib, was disappointing—dry and lacking freshness—though the drinks were much better. The bar staff were friendly, a welcome change from the earlier treatment. The night ended well enough, but the ordeal—especially the rudeness and lack of empathy from the woman handling customer communications—overshadowed much of the experience. For anyone booking Te Au Moana Luau, be aware that your reservation may be mishandled and that you might not receive the courtesy and professionalism you deserve from those tasked with guest relations. The show and setting are worth attending, but the premium price and emotional toll made this celebration much less joyful than it should have been.

What a wonderful night! Upon arrival finding parking was easy and abundant. The 20 ish minute trek along the waterfront to the venue was pleasant. Beautiful surroundings. Artesian tables filled with beautiful things to buy as you arrive. You could have photos taken if you wanted. No pressure. We sat up front for the best view. Small group of singers and dancers but so vibrant and commanding. The mistress of ceremonies shared so much history and love of family and tradition. Awesome! There was an open bar. Seven people were seated at our table comfortably. Dinner provided was delicious, placed on a lazy Susan in the middle of our table so it was easy to access and choose just what you wanted to try. Art was our waiter. So attentive! We have been to several luau’s over the years. This one is by far our favorite. Sure glad we chose this one.

The atmosphere was great, but overall the show was just okay. I’m not sure if it was worth the price I paid. The food was also just okay — some of the dishes were fine, but the meat was pretty dry. For the price, I honestly expected more.

It was a nice night, the performers were great, and the location was very nice. However, at $200 per person we paid nearly $1k for a family of five and we got stuck with Lei instead of the more durable/lasting nut necklaces that they advertise, the drinks were meh and under 21 pay the same price despite not being able to drink, and the food was pretty bland. Definitely not something I'd ever do again.

The children 5 & 9 loved it. We did however buy Premium seats so they would be close enough to see & I believe that made a difference.

Excellent show and great food. Venue was perfect. Kind of a long walk from parking to venue, but after one of the staff took us to our vehicle with a golf cart!
