Please note there is a free shuttle between the Mont St Michel coach parking and the town. In Spring and Summer, you may be required to wait due to the popularity of the site. Walking from the parking to the Mont St Michel (or vice versa) takes 40 minutes.
Knees and shoulders must be covered for both men and women to enter to the Abbey

Listen to interesting anecdotes about the history of the abbey, whilst admiring the views of the island and the surrounding region of Normandy Mont Saint-Michel began humbly enough in the eighth century, when – citing orders from Archangel Michael himself – a bishop built a church on this small and secluded rock island, which later expanded during the medieval era, attracting an increasingly large number of pilgrims.

You can then choose from some of the many options for lunch, ranging from dining rooms serving rustic meat-focused fare to sophisticated restaurants with bay-view terraces specializing in seafood. Alternatively, you can stop by one of Mont Saint-Michel’s crêperies and feast on galettes (buckwheat pancakes) paired with Normandy cider, for a more casual and characteristically Breton feed. In the late afternoon, re-board the bus for the return journey to Paris, which will see passengers back in the City of Lights well in advance of bedtime.

The climb is very steep...

4.00The climb is very steep with many steps and no rail. Inside some of the rooms were dark with little light and steps that were not always easy to navigate.. perhaps this should be noted in the tour description for those who have difficulty walking. Having said that, it was truly breathtaking from the time we had the first glimpse on the drive up until we entered the abbey. Our bus drivers got us there and home alive, however the return driver had a somewhat heavy foot in the accelerator…it was a bit unnerving. Michelle, our guide, did a good job sharing some information about Parisian/French history but could have shared a little more. There was quite a lot of quiet time. She could be funny when she spoke and was somewhat helpful, although at times she moved too fast and it was difficult to keep up with her. All in all, a good tour.

2.00Distant meeting place; no bathroom on “luxury” bus; guides provided little to no information on Mt Saint Michel. Quite the dumbed-down commentary. Tour does not provide food and drink as they advertise—you’re dropped at a gas station to buy your own. Mt Saint Michel is magnificent—and more than makes up for the lackluster “tour.” You’d be better off hiring a driver and going on your own!

2.008 hours on a bus that had less leg room than I’ve seen before. Very uncomfortable. The guide was wrong about where to catch the shuttle back to the bus leaving us scrambling to be back on time. Also the bus was quite warm and the overhead vents weren’t of any help. Also the guide all but sprinted to the top all but killing half of the elderly guests. And she should stop with the jokes. She was the only one laughing

4.00I am grateful for the experience of seeing Mont San Michel. It was a long trip from Paris and that should be considered when you are going. It is four hours, on a bus with no bathroom and a single break. That was fine for me but a challenge for older people that may have to go to the loo more often. The island is very interesting. One tour guide was good the other not so much. I was interested in MSM not what to do in Paris... we were not paying for info on Paris. Nonetheless I am happy I went on the journey.
