From April 1st, you'll have the opportunity to freely explore the gardens at your own pace and enjoy the musical show inside the gardens of Versailles. Please be aware that guided visits inside the gardens will no longer be included

Entry to the gardens is free of charge from November to March, and no ticket is required during this period. However, from April to October, a ticket is necessary to visit the gardens. Your City Wonders representative will provide you with your ticket on the day of the tour.

If you select the Full Day Option with Giverny & Versailles, you will start by a tour of Claude Monet's House in Giverny, followed by free time in the village. You will then head to Versailles by coach for an afternoon guided tour. You will be back in Paris at 7pm

Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles in true royal fashion. As your guide shows you around a carefully curated selection of the palace’s 700 rooms, you’ll hear stories of the Sun King, Louis XIV, his successors, their queens, mistresses, and courtiers – including Marie Antoinette and other notable figures. Versailles had its heyday in the 17th and 18th centuries, when the Sun King elevated Louis XIII’s humble hunting lodge into the official seat of the French court – and 300 years later, the palace has lost little of its glamorous excess.

This particular excursion may not have been at the best time, because there was a fair amount of construction in the gardens, and very little was blooming. However, there seemed to be a limited number of rooms open in the palace that could be visited. Most of those rooms were not all that impressive, and our guide gave us more information about the paintings in the rooms than anything else. The guide was quite knowledgeable about the history of the palace, and the different kings who had resided there. Yet that really wasn’t what we were too interested in.

Crowded Versailles, long wait time for City Wonders coordinator on return

Versailles was very crowded, our guide Abed was fighting through the crowds to give us background information in the various rooms. The tour ended and we were on our own to visit the garden, which was magnificent and we wish we had more energy to spend there, but we expended nearly all of our energy fighting the crowds inside the palace. When we assembled for the return trip, everyone was on time, and had to wait on the tour bus for over 20 minutes for the tour "coordinator" to show up. The bus driver finally gave up waiting as everyone was tired and ready to go. Then minutes into our return drive, the driver got a call from the City Wonders "coordinator," so the bus had to return to retrieve her, adding more time to our travels. She didn't contribute anything, nor apologize for keeping everyone waiting and adding more than half an hour to a long and tiring day.
