Enjoy visiting Penang Hill, the oldest British Hill Station in Southeast Asia, dated late 1700’s. The highest peak of Penang Hill stands at 833 meters (2,732ft) above sea level. The funicular track stretches a distance of 1,996 meters (1.99KM) from lower to Upper Station which is the longest in Asia. During the whole day, travelers will enhance their experience, maximizing the stunning views and resolving space needs. This is a Small-Group Tour limited to 15 people.

5.00Spent a morning at the Penang hill. It is a great family activity. To get to the base of the hill where you will take the funicular railway up the hill, you can easily do ride hailing which will take you right to the drop off point of the station. If you drive, there is a multi storey car park beside which is very convenient and you do not need to walk far. The ride up to the top (2000+ ft) can be a bit of a squeeze as they pack the cabins including people standing but the plus is that the queue moves fast. When you reach the top you will experience the cool air. The temperature is about 5 degrees cooler and it is a welcome respite from the usual heat. At the top of the hill you can walk around to visit the various sites and there is plenty of activities for the children. There is also a food court where you can get the usual delicious Penang food. A well spent morning!

4.00You get quite a nice view from the top of the hill and can do the habitat which I would say is the one thing you need to do up on the hill even though it is a bit expensive.
Worth getting the Express Ticket for amazing views and experience in the Funnicular

4.00The views from Penang Hill was spectacular. Weekends are busy. We bought the express tickets for the Funnicular train - amazing views up front. - though a bit crammed. Would have been better to have something to hold onto - and be pushed around as excited people try to take videos. The different walking trails could have been better marked. The Habitat and the Lemur Walk if well worth buying the ticket for walking in and above the canopy of the rai forest.

4.00To Penang Hill or Bukit Bendera you must take a furnicular train with a ticket for 30 RM. Because it is not the holiday season or the weekend visitors are not crowded so buy a regular ticket is not express. The view above is beautiful, seeing the city of Penang and its sea.

5.00We are in shape seniors (62), and so we figured we would ask for a (senior discounted) ticket up the hill, and walk down. Most of the walk down is stunningly beautiful and quiet and easy to walk, but once you hit the steeper descent, your legs might complain. It's a 25% gradient in some parts, and can be slippery after rain. We loved being separated and isolated from the crowds, that don't typically walk down, but make sure you are in good physical shape and that you have plenty of water. Some of the paths we took loop back to the top, so you could avoid the steep part.

1.00We visited Penang Hill in the morning, and the train ride as well as the calm atmosphere at the top were very enjoyable. The views are beautiful and the area is well maintained. Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed when we came across a photo point: a baby capybara was kept in a tiny cage, alongside parrots and other wild animals clearly being used as photo props. This is very disappointing – Penang Hill is a UNESCO attraction, and such practices should not be allowed. Wild animals do not belong in cages, and they certainly should not be forced to pose for tourist photos all day. Sadly, this ruined our visit.

1.00We were extremely annoyed - Viator took our money for 2 express funicular tix to Penang Hill , confirmed the booking but we were unable to Download the voucher or Contact Viator about this despite multiple attempts. We had to pay at the station for duplicate tix. Viator was useless. Wouldn’t book again thru them

5.00This is a must visit in Penang. We reached there in the afternoon, it was hot but lesser as compared to the sea side. I would suggest visiting either in the morning or evening. The views from the hilltop are good, you can see the bridges and waterfront. There are a lot of options for a quick bite on the hilltop, although, less for vegetarians/vegans. I did not take the trekking route. We took the funicular train. We took a round ticket - covers up and down journey, if I remember right it cost 30 RM. The cost is higher for the express ticket - the train is the same but for an additional price one gets to circumvent the queue. This may be useful on weekends. We took a normal ticket as it was a weekend and it took about 25 minutes to board the train. The journey is hardly 5 min it's amazing. I think the frequency is about one in every 12- 15 min. Surprisingly, passengers are allowed to stand on this route - it has a 28 degree incline. Tickets are sold for one way journeys on hill top as well. If you want to have the best of both worlds, you can take one way train and trek the other way back.
