A longer glacier hiking adventure with a certified glacier guide. Hike on Falljökull, one of the outlet glaciers of the mighty Vatnajokull glacier, - Icelands largest glacier! Your certified glacier guide will provide you with interesting information about the formation and history of the glacier.

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Minimum age is 14 years old and minimum shoe size is 35 EU
Hiking boots with ankle support are mandatory (available to rent)
Please dress in layers and wear warm, waterproof clothing.
Note that waterproof pants, waterproof jacket and hiking boots can be rented at the meeting point for a small fee.
We provide all safety gear. Please note that our specialized glacier crampons are only available for shoe size 35-50 EU. Those with a different shoe size are unfortunately unable to participate.
This tour is rated as moderate. Guests should be prepared to hike ~8km over uneven terrain

Our Glacier Explorer tour takes you to Falljökull, one of the outlets glaciers of the Vatnajökull ice cap. You will hike through a path surrounded by the ever changing landscape carved out by the glacier. Once you arrive at the tongue of the glacier your guide will assist you to gear up on crampons and you will be exploring the amazing terrain in no time! Departure from our Skaftafell booking center. Skaftafell is located 327km (203 miles) from Reykjavík. The nearest towns to Skaftafell are Kirkjubæjarklaustur, 69km to the west and Höfn, 130km to the east.

5.00Our guide, Lucie, was very enthusiastic. While leading us on the glacier hike, she also shared a lot of interesting knowledge about glaciers. We even got to see a blue ice cave. Lucie is also great at taking photos — she helped us record videos and group shots. There was a shuttle bus that took us from the visitor center to the base of the mountain. Throughout the entire trip, safety was well taken care of — we were provided with crampons, ice axes, and safety ropes. We spent about three hours on the glacier, and the whole experience was fun and very much worth it.

5.00Incredible experience- is a must do when in Iceland! Firstly a huge shout out to Neil our guide - he was AMAZING! Took the time to make sure we were all ok, taught us loads of stuff about the glacier and had such a great sense of humour! The glacier walk was so good we got to explore an ice cave, walk in deep crevasses and go up pretty high away from other groups to get great photos. It was one of our favourite experiences in Iceland and would highly recommend arctic adventures. Such informative guides who kept everyone safe and made sure we all understood everything we needed to from the start! The glacial views are just spectacular!
