Milford Sound is arguably the most scenic destination in New Zealand and a must-see for any traveller. Whether seen in sunshine or rain, the incredible views are guaranteed to leave you awestruck. Thisglobally award winning small group tour is for travellers seeking an all-inclusive, uniquely-kiwi, personalised trip from Queentown to Milford Sound and back.
Our fleet of modern Mercedes vans are fiited with leather seats, panoramic scenic windows, Wi-Fi and Spotify. Enjoy a small-group journey with 15 people maximum for ultimate comfort and undivded attention from your guide.
Let your Altitude Tours guide entertain you with in-depth knowledge of the area, as you travel from Queenstown into the Fiordland National Park on the famous Milford Road. Enjoy many scenic photo stops at both famous locations, as well as your guide's favourite spots.
Enjoy a 2-hour boutique uncrowded cruise and picnic lunch while taking in the incredible beauty that Milford Sound has to offer!

Please bring walking shoes, warm clothes and rain jacket.
Please be aware that Milford Sound is a 5 hour drive from Queenstown (one-way with sightseeing stops). This is a full day excursion, and including the 2 hour cruise on the fjord, allow approximately 13 hours door to door.
A packed picnic lunch is included in your experience. The default choice is a chicken, however you can request a vegetarian lunch until 5pm the day prior.
Please bring a reusable waterbottle on tour with us. There are multiple locations to refill during the day.

Start your day by meeting our friendly local guide at or near your Queenstown accommodation. You'll travel in style in a premium Mercedes van designed for touring with only 16 seats onboard. The first leg of our journey to Milford Sound transports you from Queenstown through the picturesque Southland farming country and the charming town of Te Anau, where we'll make a brief stop by the lakeside for refreshments.

Lake Te Anau is in the southwestern corner of the South Island of New Zealand. The lake covers an area of 344 km², making it the second-largest lake by surface area in New Zealand and the largest in the South Island. It is the largest lake in Australasia by fresh water volume.

5.00Great trip, pick up on time, small coach with 15 on board, lots of timely stops along the way for coffee, pics and comfort breaks. Upon arriving at milford sound, get to the front of the queue to get the best spot on the boat, the boat itself was a good size, not too big and not too small, and the trip around the sound was amazing. When we boarded to come home again there were lots of timely stops. Can definitely recommend this trip. Stuart did a great job of looking after us all on the journey, considerate for all of his passengers, knowledgeable of the area and great sense of humour tailored to the group.

5.00Amazing tour experience. Clean and modern small tour van. Fabulous touring music and informative commentry made the 4.5 hour roadtrip either way pass quickly. Not a single complaint from our 3 teenage boys! Tour guides knowledge base impressive. All up highly recommend. Thank you Katie for helping to make Milford so memorable.

5.00Small group is highly recommended, it saves you time to load or wait for other people, the atmosphere is more private in a van, quiet and more relaxing Why Altitude? They have good price for the value, their drivers/hosts are knowledgeable, in addition to being safe. Nicole drove us to Milford Sound for our cruise, she has great stories and fun facts about NZ- we really enjoyed our 4hr trip and back with her. The stopovers were fascinating as the Sound cruise. Nicole was determined for us to see a Kea and she delivered!

5.00We’ve just returned from the Milford Sound day trip and cannot recommend the experience highly enough. Pick up was bang on time, the bus was modern and comfortable, lunch was delicious, and all of the stops were really well spaced and worthwhile. Falls Creek in particular was incredible! Our guide, Chelsea, was warm, welcoming, incredibly knowledgeable and super attentive to everyone on board the bus. We decided to take the scenic flight back and Chelsea worked incredibly hard to make it happen, and we are so grateful she did! It was amazing!! Thanks to all at Altitude for a fantastic day. We loved every minute!

5.00This was a phenomenal day and an easy way to cover some ground while still being based in Queenstown. We added the flight back to Queenstown out of the sound and the views were incredible.
Great Job Steve and Altitude Tours - Easily our best Queenstown experience.

5.00From the Moment Steve got out of his Altitude Bus and checked us off we felt welcomed by his friendly manner and professionalism. As we picked up the other passengers, we were thinking this would be an entertaining trip. When everyone was on board He commenced his brief on how the day would work and how we were going to ensure we were on time for our boat trip. His delivery of information was excellent, sometimes humorous, always entertaining and he ensured he engaged everyone on board and remembered names. His knowledge and respect for the Māori history and their stories was clearly evident and well delivered. Steve is an outstanding ambassador for your company and gave us all a very enjoyable trip and made the long day very enjoyable. This trip, was the most enjoyable and best value for money of all our experiences in Queenstown. The 16 seater was large enough to be comfortable and intimate enough to easily converse with other passengers.
