The two-day tour of Theth is a special interest hiking tour program exclusively designed to offer participants the best combination of pristine wild nature, an unforgettable view of the heart of the Albanian Alps, local folklore and traditions. During these two days you will be able to visit most of the attractions of Northern Albania, combining a variety of exciting outdoor activities with time to soak up the local culture.

Our journey towards the Albanian Alps begins at 06:00 am in the morning. Our tour leader will come and pick you up at your hotel in Tirana or Shkoder.

Shkoder

As we drive along the way towards Northern Albania, you will be amazed by beautiful landscapes; wild fields, rivers, Shkodra Lake and rugged untouched mountains. From Shkoder we will experience local transport riding at around 7:30 am.

As we take the turn from the main road to Theth the area becomes more rural, with fewer cars but more wild nature and amazing landscapes. Due to its favorable position this area is famous for cultivating medicinal herbs, and if you are lucky to travel in May – June you would be amazed by the pretty and aromatic fields of lavender, making you feel like you are in Provence (France). On the way to the top, we will pass through a steep sneaky hillside reaching up to 1700 meters above sea level at Qafa e Thores. They say this is the spot with the best picture – perfect view of the Albanian Alps

Theth National Park

We arrive at our Guesthouse in Theth. After resting a bit, we visit the old Church and the “Lock in” Tower (symbol of Theth) and its fascinating story in centuries. Overnight in a guesthouse in Theth

Blue Eye of Theth

We will have a short break for refreshment and start our hiking journey towards the Blue Eye at around mid-day. Blue Eye was formed by the erosion of the water from the melting snow of the Albanian Alps. The hike is about 3 hours one way, with a hiking distance of 6.2 km both ways and about 700 m of elevation. This trail is considered easy to moderate, requiring some experience in hiking. You will not be able to take your eyes off this stunning scene of nature with its bright blue and green colors, it’s like being inside a postcard. Also, fun fact, the temperature of the Blue Eye is just around 5 degrees Celsius. Would you dare to dive in the blue but very cold water? Hiking details (approx.): Distance: 18km Elevation gain: 700 m Technical difficulty: Moderate Time: 6h Trail type: Loop

Grunasi Waterfall

after breakfast we will begin our hiking adventure to Grunas Waterfall (about 1-hour hike one way). Grunas Waterfall is a curtain of white water that comes over the grey rocks as if it were being poured from a bucket that never empties. The water tumbles down the hillside in a series of mini-waterfalls. Hiking details (approx.): Distance: 6 km Elevation gain: 270 m Technical difficulty: Moderate Time: 3h Trail type: Loop

Shkoder

The elaborated zig-zags road through the mountainous terrain smoothens down little by little taking us towards Shkoder

Our tour was absolutely incredible. Daniel, our guide, was a brilliant and very knowledgeable, Theth was beautiful, and our guesthouse host was lovely. We were very grateful the tour still went ahead with just us two despite there being no one else on the group tour. It was an incredible opportunity to learn about the culture, history and traditions of Albania whilst getting to see some beautiful sights!

We were picked up promptly and Marko was a great guide for our private 2 day hike. He was knowledgeable and informative. His driving around the narrow, windy roads was good and extremely competent. He set an ideal pace for the hikes.
Definitely would recommend!

Mira was an amazing guide. Answered all questions patiently, and shared a lot about Albanian culture and what it’s like living in Albania today. Happened to be the only one who signed up for the tour on that day, so it turned into a private tour! Was a very relaxed journey. Definitely would recommend!

Had another great tour by ChooseBalkans which saw us travel up to Theth for two magnificent days exploring the beautiful Albanian Alps region. We had the pleasure of being guided by Elton (Toni) who was a great motivator of pushing us through parts of the hikes as it was a 35 degree day and the struggle was real at times however his persistence to get us to the end really paid off with ample time to cool down at the blue eye as well as at the waterfall. The accommodation in Theth is a really cute b&b style property run by a beautiful family who defiantly make sure you are very well fed! 😋 Thanks again ChooseBalkans and Toni for another amazing tour!

The strength of Choose Balkans is that they want to adapt their program to your needs. We got to see Blue Eye even though it wasn't part of the tour. Albanians are such friendly people. The country exceeded my expectations. What a beautiful nature! Both the mountains and the sea. We thank Armando for this fantastic week with him as our guide. We couldn't imagine a better one. He has so much knowledge about the country and was able to keep telling. We will definitely come back because a week is too short! Thank you Choose Balkans ! You are very professional and I will advertise about you in Belgium!

It was my first time in Albania with my friends. We were searching for something special, challenge and worth it. We went to Choose Balkans and we were sugested to do the Hiking tour of Theth in two Days. The other day they picked us from our Hotel, with a private car and very comfortable one. The driver was even our guide which was very friendly and professional. At the end of our experience we were surprised by Albanian Alps and the organization of Choose Balkans. Highly Reccomend. Definetely come back again for another adventure.

This tour was more than just a physical challange for me . It had it all. It was my first hike with a full on backpack and coming for a mundane life to this was a bit of a strech but fortunately i had a great guide and with his calm attitude and good conversation it turned out to be worthwhile. If you ever wanna go places but solo isnt for you go to choose balkans and they will defenitely have something for you and your needs. Thank you.
