Why follow the crowds? At Yorktour we believe a great tour should also be a fun conversation, which is why we guarantee there will be no more than eight participants so everyone can ask questions and no-one needs to worry about being left at the back! This family-friendly walking tour includes all the key sights - including the exterior of the Minster and the celebrated Shambles - though we will also lead you deep into the medieval maze of ‘Snickelways’ to follow in the footsteps of the Romans and Vikings who created York. Above all, our tours rely on great storytelling rather than gimmicks - so if we can’t remember everyone’s names there must be too many people taking part!

One of the best city walking tours I have ever done. Only 3 of us on the tour with a constant enthusiastic narrative as we walked along. The 90 minutes flew by. There are lots of things to see in York, but those chosen for this 90 minutes tour gave a strong representation of York through the ages, at every turn. Pleasant, informative and engaging without overload or silly stories. Thank you.

It was a very interesting, condensed history of York, with wonderful buildings and walks as illustrations

I visited York by train from London during my first-ever visit to the UK, and had just half a day to see this lovely city. The walking tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. His enthusiasm was infectious. I learned much more than if I had wandered around on my own.

Our guide Alfred was fantastic! His enthusiasm was delightful and his knowledge base was extensive and appreciated. Learning about the history of York combined with the different layers of architecture and how York came to be was very interesting. Hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and highly recommend, however be prepared for a lot of walking!

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable of both York history and its relationship to the broader world. I especially appreciated that the tour was information rich and was without some of the gimmicks seen on other York tours.

We are empty-nesters who traveled to York for a weekend in mid-October with another couple, having booked the Best of York on Foot in a Small Group well in advance. There were eight adults in our group, all retirees, plus our tour guide, who was originally from Instanbul but who has lived in York for over 15 years and is married to a Brit. She was knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. We enjoyed learning the history of the various eras she described and seeing the beautiful Roman Walls, ruins of St. Mary's Abbey (thanks to Henry VIII), the Shambles market and of course, the regal and beautiful York Minster. The walk was easy and generally level and took about an hour and 45 minutes. Well worth the $54 USD we paid for two of us!
