It takes only two and a half hours to get there from the centre of Osaka. Kinosaki has been famous for its onsen for over 1,000 years. Japanese people enjoy soto-yu, which involves experiencing several different onsens without staying at a hotel. We are also going on a trip to Ankokuji, which is famous for the view from the temple window. On the second day, we will visit another temple and have soba at a Kawadoko restaurant located beside the river. The area stays cool even in summer due to the air and water from the mountains. This tour is completely different from others. You can relax and experience the real Japan.

Ankokuji Temple
Ankokuji Temple is a temple where the view of dodan-tsutsuji seen from the window looks like a single picture. Admission is 500 yen. The best time to see the dodan-tsutsuji is in November, but the green leaves in summer are also beautiful.

Chorakuji Temple
The five-story pagoda and Buddhist statues of Chorakuji Temple in Kami Town are very impressive. You will take a walk around Chorakuji.
Known as “Okyo-ji Temple,” Daijyo-ji Temple is home to 165 wall paintings by Edo period painter Maruyama Okyo and his 12 disciples, all of which are designated as National Important Cultural Properties of Japan. Centering on the eleven-faced Kannon Bosatsu (National Important Cultural Property) in the Buddhist room, the fusuma paintings in the thirteen rooms are a magnificent representation of the world of Buddha, or mandala, by incorporating the three-dimensional space of the rooms. The paintings, which are painted only with ink but appear to be colored, and the “eight-way glare” technique, in which the painted figure's body appears to change direction depending on the viewer's position, are also highlights of Okyo's signature painting technique.
Enjoy a sake tasting at the 300-year-old sake brewery Kasumitsuru. All types of sake are available in the store of Kozutsuru's directly-managed store, and three types of sake can be tasted if desired. There is also a tasting area in the back of the store, and if you prefer to savor your favorite sake at your leisure, you can drink it in wine glasses. Ice cream and snacks are also available for purchase.

We had such a great time! We met Junko in Osaka and drove to Kinosaki area where they had a lovely Inn with a great Onsen inside. Then we went for a tasting of local Japanese food; we loved it. In the afternoon, we went to Kinosaki, a very picturesque town, to enjoy more Onsens, and back to the Inn, where we enjoyed local dishes and sake as well. The day after we visited, Choraku-Ji, one of the best Buddhist Temples we saw in Japan, a real hidden gem I would say. And then from there, we took the train to go to Kyoto. Thank you so much to Junko and her husband hero for their hospitality!
