The Atomic Bomb Dome is a building that was bombed during the final stages of World War II with the first-ever deployed nuclear weapon. It stands almost exactly as it did when it was bombed, serving as a poignant reminder of the devastation caused by nuclear weapons and advocating for the abolition of such arms and the importance of global peace. Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1996, following efforts for its nomination, it was designated as a national historic site by the Japanese government in June 1995.
The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum was established in 1955 with the aim of conveying the reality of the damage caused by the atomic bomb to people around the world and contributing to the abolition of nuclear weapons and the realization of everlasting world peace, which are the core values of Hiroshima. At 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, Hiroshima became the first city in the world to suffer the devastation of an atomic bomb. The city was largely destroyed, and many lives were lost. Even those who survived suffered significant physical and psychological trauma, with many survivors still experiencing suffering to this day. The Peace Memorial Museum collects and exhibits artifacts of survivors, as well as photographs and documents depicting the devastation caused by the bombing. It also provides information on the history of Hiroshima before and after the bombing and the state of affairs during the nuclear age.

Our guide, Yuko was a wealth of information, sharing unforgettable stories about the Hiroshima city's history. She had an excellent communication skill, making sure everyone understood the plan for the day. Her enthusiasm was infectious! She shared interesting facts without overwhelming me and my wife. Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. She was incredibly flexible and helped us to take small breaks between walking and navigate the logistics like train schedules, order snacks by ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience. We highly recommend Yuko!!

Perfect walking tour to see top places in Hiroshima. Started at Peace Memorial, then walked to Hiroshima Castle and ended at the beautiful Gardens. Our tour guide Yuki was knowledgable and flexible. Our taxi driver from the cruise port dropped us off at the wrong location and Yuki was so kind to come meet us at the Peace Memorial and started from there. I highly recommend this tour as we saw it all and had time to get back to the ship.

Wonderful day spent with Masa for the walking tour. Masa met us at the train station and led us to all of the listed sights. She provided commentary along the way, including much sbout the culture. Masa’s English is good and she is a thoughtful guide. We happened to visit on the 80th anniversary of the bombing, so the site was full of attendees and dignitaries. Masa explained how this day is celebrated and worked around the crowds. I highly recommend this tour and Masa.

Yoshiko Misaki is a wealth of information and a great guide to the city. She knows Hiroshima's complex and tragic history (and its rebirth) inside and out and quickly gathers information when asked an obscure issue. Definitely worth the experience over just a few hours. Our only issue is that we took the tour on an extremely hot and humid June/July day. She is very fast and wants to cover a lot. Perhaps a bit slower pace, especially for grey haired travellers, would have made it a more pleasant experience. A worthy tour regardless.
