We had a great experience. Handy being picked up. The cooking & dining location was lovely and fresh. The market visit was enjoyable, we watched Chef Samuel do his thing. Totally different market from any other market we had seen. The cooking was great (thank you Chef Samuel) and the meals we created totally delicious.

Our (couple in their 40s) experience with Samuel was great! We started the day at a market far away from the touristy hustle & bustle of Georgetown, enjoyed some coffee & tea and then proceeded to purchase supplies from a local market. Upon arriving at Samuel's cooking studio, we began preparing each dish in succession. Samuel would guide us with helpful tips, making sure we picked up what mattered when preparing malaysian food. The dishes we chose were roti canai, char koay teow, chicken satay and ayam masak kicap. They all turned out really well and easily matched the flavours we had tasted at various hawker stalls. All in all it was a very fun and educational activity and the highlight of our stay. I would unquestioningly recommend it to anyone visiting Penang!

We and our two kids aged 9 & 6 spent a delicious afternoon with Chef Samuel. We started with coffee and snacks at a local food market followed by shopping for fresh ingredients in the wet market. At Chef Samuel’s cooking studio we cooked 3 delicious local dishes to perfection under his guidance. Left with new skills and full tummies! Thanks Samuel it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience!

Chef Samuel has been wonderful! We learned so much about the ingredients, name and origin of the dishes and cooking techniques. We are great fans of Malaysian cuisine and we had to learn how to cook them back home. Since I’m not a morning person we did the afternoon class. Starting up at noon with a coffee at the local food market then a visit to the market to buy the ingredients we needed for our dishes. At the studio we felt very comfortable, the place is neat and the cooking station was ready for us to start. Everything went smoothly and the 4 hours went by rapidly. The dishes were authentic and delicious. Thanks chef Samuel for this incredible experience!

Mother and daughter team wanting to do something special together and decided to try to learn a new cooking skill. (And another friend decided to join us last minute). Through our search, we found Chef Samuel. We were able to choose the dishes we wanted to learn from an extensive list. During the class, we learned many different things that makes regional cooking unique. Such as how to balance flavors, and how to adapt/adjust ingredients so we can recreate our dishes at home. Also, because of my allergies, he made adjustments to our recipes to make sure I was safe. A couple of my favorite comments that Chef Samuel made that really stuck with me is that “cooking is an art” and “cooking is all about balance”. Not only did we learn how to cook the dishes, we also learned about its origins. And Chef Samuel shared some of the theories behind the science of cooking. The wet market was an interesting experience. We got to see and learn about many different foods/ingredients that aren’t available in the states. Side note: we also signed up for Chef Samuel’s wife to take pictures of our experiences. Jacqueline (sp?) is also friendly and fun to work with. After learning that this was our first time in Penang, she sent us info of many things to do and places to eat. Can’t wait to explore more dishes with Chef Samuel in the future. And to see his wife again.

A fantastic shopping and cooking experience with Samuel, who is very friendly, knowledgeable and teaches really well. It’s a really well organised experience - from choosing your cooking menu, pick up/meeting at the market, food experience at the market, shopping, the cooking class and then dining room - it’s all easy and fun. You get printed copies of recipes and instructions, and can take notes and videos during the class too. Lots of hands on experience. We really enjoyed our afternoon with Samuel and are looking forward to trying some of the recipes at home.

Cooking with Chef Samuel was amazing! Do it! I lived in Singapore for 4 1/2 years and always regretted not learning how to cook SE Asian foods, some of the best food in the world. Chef Samuel offers a complete end-to-end experience of going to a local hawker/wet market, picking up the ingredients that you’ll use in the dishes that you’re making, and then learning everything you need to know about cooking the local dishes you select. He’s also really kind and patient. His cooking facilities are top-notch! He not only explains how to cook to the dishes but he also talks about the local culture and spices that go into the dishes you are making. I’m fortunate that I live in NYC and have no problem getting most of the ingredients needed to cook these local dishes but Chef Samuel is very good at helping to know how to replace certain ingredients, as needed. All in all, this is a 5-star experience. I’ve done a lot of classes and experiences across Asia and this is a great class!!

A fantastic afternoon learning new skills and recipes with Chef Samuel. A complete hands on experience learning to cook the dishes you have chosen, and there’s a big menu to choose from! From the pick-up from our accommodation to the end of the experience was just great! We thoroughly enjoyed our time and can’t wait to replicate the dishes we love. Highly recommended!!
