What an amazing experience. Samuel was a great teacher and was very willing to share his ’secrets’. We made satay, char siew and nasi goreng. All from first principles and we were given great instructions and how to taste the sauces and adjust on the run. Fully recommend Samuel’s classes to anyone interested in learning more about making their own dishes.

We had an amazing experience cooking with Chef Samuel! He has a great set of recipes to choose from. Started at the market to select fresh ingredients. Then headed to his immaculate and well stocked kitchen to prep and cook with his guidance. He gave us lots of advice about techniques and explained the history and significance of the food. He freely answered all of our questions and was a genuine pleasure to spend time with. Once the cooking was done we got to enjoy the fruits of our labor in his beautiful dining area. We learned so much highly recommend Chef Samuel to anyone interested in learning about Malaysian food and cooking. We look forward to taking another class from him during our next visit to Georgetown!

Our cooking experience with Chef Samuel was one of the absolute highlights of our trip. Since we eat vegetarian, it was very important to us that our needs were considered. Samuel went above and beyond: he was incredibly attentive, flexible, and creative in adapting the menu, and the food was both delicious and inspiring. We learned so much, not only about recipes, but also about culture, ingredients, and techniques. What touched us most was how wonderfully he included our 6-year-old son in the cooking process – relaxed, patient, playful, and without any pressure. We felt truly welcomed as a family. Samuel and his family are exceptionally warm, kind, and open, which made the whole experience feel very personal and special. We can absolutely recommend this experience. It was memorable, enriching, and definitely a highlight of our journey.

This has to be the highlight of our trip to Penang. So easy with door to door travel from our hotel. Chef Samuel is delightful and super knowledgeable. He makes the experience work for everyone in the family - all cooking skill level. The food that comes out is incredible and we feel like we really earned it. Highly recommended!!

Cooking with Samuel was an amazing experience from start to finish. Samuel first took us to the local market, where we picked up fresh ingredients — fish, vegetables, herbs, and all the essentials — which instantly made the class feel authentic and culturally immersive. Back in the kitchen, we cooked a selection of truly delicious recipes, and Samuel explained everything so clearly and properly that I’m genuinely keen to replicate the dishes at home. What I especially appreciated was that he didn’t just walk us through steps — he gave structure and context to the cuisine, so you understand why things are done a certain way, not only how. Communication before the masterclass was also excellent: polite, attentive, and timely, with a great choice of dishes available to prepare. And the best part: the food we enjoyed afterwards was absolutely amazing — the laksa, fish, and prawns were outstanding. I would highly recommend this masterclass both to people who don’t usually cook (it’s a fantastic cultural experience) and to those who already cook and want to broaden their horizon and genuinely enhance their skills with incredible recipes.

Me and my partner had an awesome time with Chef Samuel. We learn so much about the local foods while touring and cooking with him. He is detailed in his knowledge, which we appreciated. He was generous with his knowledge, you can tell he has been cooking for a long time and loves it! Not only that, his wife was so kind to join us. She shared so many wonderful tips with us about Penang. We would love to take the class again if time permits. Thanks a million!

We (family of 3 adults) enjoyed our time with Chef Samuel. As a professionally trained Chef he teaches and explains proper cooking techniques - cutting, steaming, kneading etc; which really added value and which we really appreciated because we opted to learn traditional Nyonya dishes. In addition Samuel has a wealth of knowledge of local food culture and history which we found so interesting. The local wet market shopping and kopitiam breakfast was a highlight as it was an area of Penang we had not extensively explored previously. Samuel's kitchen studio is spotlessly clean, bright and airy and of course equipped with everything required. Most importantly the food we cooked was delicious. As an added bonus, Samuel is very responsive to messages before and after the cooking class - for pick up times and locations; and his personal recommendations of local eateries. If you're a keen cook and wanting to learn about the local food culture, this is a great way to spend 1/2 day of your holiday in Penang.

We had a great experience. Handy being picked up. The cooking & dining location was lovely and fresh. The market visit was enjoyable, we watched Chef Samuel do his thing. Totally different market from any other market we had seen. The cooking was great (thank you Chef Samuel) and the meals we created totally delicious.

Our (couple in their 40s) experience with Samuel was great! We started the day at a market far away from the touristy hustle & bustle of Georgetown, enjoyed some coffee & tea and then proceeded to purchase supplies from a local market. Upon arriving at Samuel's cooking studio, we began preparing each dish in succession. Samuel would guide us with helpful tips, making sure we picked up what mattered when preparing malaysian food. The dishes we chose were roti canai, char koay teow, chicken satay and ayam masak kicap. They all turned out really well and easily matched the flavours we had tasted at various hawker stalls. All in all it was a very fun and educational activity and the highlight of our stay. I would unquestioningly recommend it to anyone visiting Penang!

We and our two kids aged 9 & 6 spent a delicious afternoon with Chef Samuel. We started with coffee and snacks at a local food market followed by shopping for fresh ingredients in the wet market. At Chef Samuel’s cooking studio we cooked 3 delicious local dishes to perfection under his guidance. Left with new skills and full tummies! Thanks Samuel it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience!
