Great beautiful experience. Too much city walking prior to going to temple. Climb to temple takes energy and endurance. Monk was gracious and informative. Tourists were rude and dusruptive...as always. Views spectacular. Worth the trek.

Wonderful tour and guidance by our host Miyake to a unique hilltop temple experience via a very scenic route and Arashiyama is a delightful town by itself. Can easily be a 1, 2 or 3 day stay with fun activities. Travelers from Kyoto be sure to take the correct trainline which drops you right in the activity center of the town and for hiking outings ( this tour started at Arashiyama Main Station which is not easy to get to from Kyoto, wheras the return was a breeze, thanks to our guide Miyake who showed us the direct train line to return to Kyoto center

We did this tour in September, and it was amazing!! Walking and trekking through the bamboo forest was peaceful and we’ve learned a lot from our guide and from the monk at the temple, it was very special and inspiring. We felt so relaxed and connected to the nature and culture afterward.

The zen experience is unforgettable- aprox. 1h with a Buddhist monk teaching us how to meditate. And all steps translated by our Guide (very good guide). And this “meditation class” happened in an isolated buddhist temple!!

Our tour guide, Miya, was absolutely wonderful and very knowledgeable. The tour required quite a bit of hiking. The views were breathtaking and the zen experience was very memorable. Highly recommend!
