Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine

The Fushimi Inari Shrine is famous for tunnels of vermillion-red torii gates. This shrine has a lot of stories to tell that will connect you to the Japan's history and culture and your guide will show you deeper. You will see a fascinating story attached to the origin of the shrine dedicated to the god of grains. You’ll see statues of the fox around the shrine. “Kitsune” or the fox is a servant to the god Inari. You may would want the foxes on your side after this tour.

    Our guide, Michi, was wonderful! His communication was excellent from helping us choose an itinerary, guiding us through the process, navigating the day of, picking a nice lunch location and getting us back to our hotel. He was truly a delight. We enjoyed getting to know him and learning about Kyoto’s history. My daughter wanted him to be her adopted grandfather afterward. Our day in Kyoto was part of a two week adventure in Japan and Guam for my daughter and I. At the end of the trip, she said our time with Michi was her favorite. A few tips: - Have small increments of cash or a transit card for bus rides. We only had large bills which the buses didn’t take. Michi helped us navigate it, of course, so it didn’t derail us too much, but good to know. - I picked an itinerary that was all temples and shrines, which were all interesting and lovely. But I realized afterwards that we didn’t visit any palaces. So I would have either replaced one of the temples/shrines for a palace or would have made time to visit one when we went to Tokyo. Michi had given us the option to customize our itinerary in the weeks before our trip, but I didn’t think about that till later. - We visited in August, because of the timing of other events in our vacation, but Michi suggested that if we came back, November and February were good times due to different special festivals or events happening in those months. Also not as hot.
