• Waste of money, just driving around the city

  Really disappointing and waste of $400+ and our time. Booked this as we are here with our parents who cant walk long distance. We were a group of 4 and besides going at high speed from one point to the other in the golf cart & swerving around the corners, pretty much there was no "guide/historical" aspect in the tour. The driver kept chatting with the person sitting next to him but rarely used the mic to actually be the guide and tell us anything about the sites we were visiting. We were given 5-10mins at many locations to stop and take pictures (which was good) but besides getting the first 4 lines on the locations, that you can get from Google, nothing else was shared. My husband dubbed the driver "Mr. Obvious" coz the most he told us was this is a bridge/ that is the hospital that is still functional/ that is the supreme court building/ that is the river running through Rome, now we are in the vatican city... not much was shared. At the end of the tour, we were dropped at a street leading up to the Trevi Fountain and told take a right there and you will reach the fountain, thank you for taking the tour. Besides our group, there was another group of 4 and a couple(total 10ppl) and so we were two carts following each other, and dependent on this one guy to speak into the mic and be the guide (the other driver wasnt speaking, just driving the other cart), but most of the time he spent chatting to the person next to him. When my mother asked him some basic question about one of the monument we were crossing, he said I don't know - which was his answer to a lot of questions we asked. We know we got unlucky with the guide because we crossed another one of the carts of the same company, and we could see the other driver stopping and speaking to the people in his cart about the history of a location and sharing interesting information about it. (We were stuck in traffic so moving slowly and almost next to each other for 5-10mins whjxh is why i could over hear bits and pieces). Overall, I would not recommend this tour at all to anyone. Absolute waste of money and massive disappointment in how unprofessionally the tour was conducted. It is so bad that we would have asked for a partial refund if it was possible

  Dan, our golf-cart guide, made an effort to find locations that we had not seen yet. This was very much appreciated. He also provided interesting details about the monuments. We would recommend this tour (and guide) without reservation. Also, Viator was very responsive in booking us on a later tour when, despite having received confirmation, we learned that our booking had not been received by the local tour company. Two thumbs up for Viator!

• Great tour, when short on time

  This was a great tour. We had a short time in Rome and our goal was to see the most we could in the amount of time we had. I felt like this was accomplished and the guides were great. We were with a pretty large group, so at times we had to wait for them. That's not the fault of the guides. However, I did think this was a private tour.

  They didn't show up or make contact on the day of our tour. This was the only activity i had planned for my mum for the whole trip.

  Andrea customized a wonderful tour to exactly what we wanted to see and more! He had so much content to offer we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I have to recommend taking the golf cart and ask for Andrea.
