Gyoza dumplings originated in China but have evolved over time into a uniquely Japanese dish, with different styles and sizes, becoming a popular favorite.

In this class, you’ll learn how to make Gyoza dumplings from scratch while also discovering a bit about Samurai culture and Japanese history, all within a traditional Kyoto townhouse.

After the cooking class, you’ll have the option to dress up in Samurai armor(optional) and take memorable photos.

Very simple and fun class. YO was extremely personable and the setting is ideal for the cooking. We forgot to get the recipe as we were leaving but you get wonderful cooking apron souvenir.

We had a great time learning how to make Japanese-style gyoza in the "Gyoza Cooking Class in Kyoto: Traditional Japanese Dumplings" and highly recommend the class if you're interested! Our instructor, Hama, was easy and fun to learn from and, most importantly, very patient as she showed us 4 different styles of folding and sealing gyoza. She even started us off with practicing the folds using paper before we had to do it for real, which was very helpful. Towards the end of the class, we cooked and ate the gyoza (which were delicious!) and were given the instructions + ingredients list (including amounts) to make them at home.

The most amazing gyoza cooking experience!! I was the only person for the 6:00 pm class, so I had a private cooking class which was incredible! I got to learn so much history about the gyoza, and Kyoto, and I got to keep my apron and headband. I know the price is high, but it’s definitely worth it.

  • Must do in Kyoto!

This was the best experience. It was so much fun to have a private gyoza class. We learned so much about the culture while making every step of the gyoza process. Truly one of the highlights of my trip.
