Explore Juneau’s incredible coastline on this small-group kayaking adventure through the beautiful Mendenhall Wetlands. Keep your camera ready as you glide past eagles perched in the trees, harbor seals resting on the rocks, and maybe even a curious sea lion or porpoise swimming nearby. From your kayak, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind view of the majestic Mendenhall Glacier, visible from six miles away as it winds through mountain peaks.

This tour is intentionally limited to no more than 8 guests, creating a quiet, intimate experience. Unlike other tours, each guest paddles their own single kayak , allowing for better control, comfort, and opportunity to explore. (Double kayaks available on request)

You’ll be fully outfitted with a high-quality dry suit, keeping you warm and dry in all weather conditions. Our experienced local guides provide hands-on instruction and support throughout the tour, making this adventure ideal for first-time kayakers as well as those with prior experience.

We will pick you up from the cruise ship port and then drive for 20 minutes to the North Douglas boat launch ramp. We will introduce equipment, go over safety protocols, and get everyone suited up and in their kayaks. We will be on the water for 2 hours, including a beach walk and snack break. The entire tour will take 3.5 hours.

Mendenhall Glacier

Our tour takes place in the estuarial region directly in front of the Mendenhall glacier. The view that you get on our tour is one of the most complete views of the glacier in all of Juneau. You will be further away from the glacier than tours that go to or around the visitors center. Fog can affect the view of the Mendenhall Glacier.

My experience was amazing! I was in Juneau for wok solo and snuck in a quick kayak experience and it was SO wonderful! I felt safe, it was beautiful, our guide, Jake was wonderful and charming! I’m so so glad I went on this excursion!

The weather could change very quickly so be prepared. When we kayaked to a nearby beach, the weather was beautiful. Thankfully I took the opportunity to take plenty of pictures. On our way back the weather changed, it got very windy and the water was rough. We had to go back in the direction of the wind which made it very difficult to get back to our starting location. When we made it back we were exhausted and wet.

Awesome experience!! Nigel and Jacob were so informative, helpful, and fun. They picked us up right by the cruise ships and they dropped us off in town after hearing us talking about wanting to go there!! They brought us snacks and drinks and had all the supplies. This was an awesome way to get out and do something active while also enjoying the scenery. We got to see the glacier and some eagles. Highly recommend!!

A very interesting way to view the mendenhall glacier and get some great cardiovascular exercise. Our guides Nigel and Jacob were fantastic. Definitely recommend this unique and fun tour.

Nigel and Jacob were very friendly. Learned all 6 of our names right away. Very knowledgeable and wanted to make sure all of us had a good time. The sport we kayaked at was very peaceful able to see nature and enjoy the view not crowded at all. Equipment all in good shape, clean, wet suits clean odor free! (Big plus for me)! Would recommend this experience to anyone.

What an incredible experience. Paddle Juneau and Nigel really provided an amazing kayak tour. I'm completely blown away by the number of Bald Eagles that I got to see and the beauty of Fritz Cove. This is a small group tour and you're able to get off the kayaks on a little sandy island to enjoy a warm beverage, snacks, and the beauty of the glaciers and mountains. Keeping warm is easy in the dry suits. The paddle experience adjusts to whatever level of experience and physical fitness you have. I took a 9 AM tour that started with overcast skies and a little fog but it cleared up by the afternoon. Whether you're solo, like I was, or with a group, it's an awesome experience!

Whole family (7 adults) did this kayaking trip as part of a day excursion on an Alaskan Cruise and it was worth every penny. As stated by literally every other reviewer, the guide Nigel was amazing - he is a passionate, energetic, knowledgeable, and personal young man who loves what he does which comes out in spades during the tour. He made all the necessary adjustments (to include changing to a 2-person kayak for 2 in our group) as well as guiding us according to the weather and water levels and the result was a trip we didnt want to end. This adventure cant be missed!

Beautiful walk in nature. Private kayak tour because it was just me, my partner and the guide (if I’m not mistaken his name is Nigel, who was very helpful and kind throughout the tour). You take a ride in the silence of nature and with breathtaking views, better do the activity during a day in good weather to enjoy beautiful photos. Activities to do.
