Led by a local resident of over ten years, this walking tour is shaped by daily life in Kyoto and a deep personal passion for its history, culture, and geisha traditions.
Your guide is a History passionate and Hospitality focused (has owned a Cafe and Guesthouse and worked as Head of Hospitality at the World Expo), but above all enjoys sharing the hidden stories of Gion in a relaxed and friendly way.

Michael is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Kyoto’s history and culture. He explained the origins and traditions of Geisha culture in such detailed yet engaging ways, making every stop in Gion come alive. From the charming machiya townhouses to the historic temples and hidden alleys, his storytelling gave us a much deeper appreciation of old Kyoto. 5.00We had a very interesting and varied tour through a beautiful neighborhood in Kyoto. Michael was very friendly, open, and welcoming from the very beginning. We especially appreciated his great sense of humor, which made the whole tour enjoyable and never boring. It was clear that he has excellent knowledge of Kyoto, and he shared many fascinating background stories, historical details, and local insights that we would never have discovered on our own.
