3.00Tour with Shun on a Sunday. Nice guy. Overall found it disappointing as we just seemed to shuffle from one vendor to the other without any meaningful explanation of what and why they were chosen. Takoyaki is a key local delicacy but that was ignored completely. Also the local omelettes are worth seeing being cooked but we bypassed that vendor to pick up a cold omelette from a vendor in a plastic container. Not really authentic. Tour was supposed to take 2 hours but we were sitting down for the Wagyu beef - the last stop, after one hour. We’ve pretty much all tried that in Japan. Overall - nothing wrong with the food itself (although the stop at the chicken vendor was bad), but we felt we could have just done it all ourselves and questioned the vendors. Booked via Marriott - as an Ambassador Member - disappointed.

5.00We did the Kyoto Nishiki Food Market Tour with Leandra. We had the best experience! She gave us so much history and background. Not only did she have the best stops on the tour, she was also making sure we didn’t miss other spots, whether it was pointing out an original well from the market or the oldest shop in the market. So much more enriching to do the tour with someone like Leandra than just going it alone. Do this tour and I hope you are lucky enough to get Leandra!

5.00I'm so happy I booked this tour of Nishiki Market! Mana has amazing taste, and gave us great recommendations. Her choices were well rounded from spices to sushi, wagyu, desserts, and more. We left with plenty of treats to take home. We even ended up going back to the market to get more of what she recommended days after the tour. We got lost on our way to the market, and she was extremely accommodating finding us.

5.00Leandra was very knowledgeable and found us some fantastic food spots in Kyoto. Her food selections ranged from vegetables to seafood to wagyu steak. Drinks were plentiful, especially Sake!

5.00I am so glad we booked this! We tend not to do tours when traveling, but we took a chance this time. We wanted to get the best out of the market, and Chikako our guide truly delivered! She was so knowledgeable and ready to answer any and all of our questions. Everything we tried was delicious, and when there were samples that were outside of our comfort zone, there was not an intense pressure to try them. However, with the guidance and information from Chikako, I felt excited to eat each dish. It felt good to take in all of the history, geography, anthropology, biology, economics and so much more of the foods that make up Kyoto and Japanese culture. What a delicious tour not only for the taste buds but for the mind and spirit. I went back to some of the stalls we visited to buy ingredients and snacks for later. I gained a deeper understanding of the food of Japan for the rest of my trip and beyond. Thank you so much Chikako and Ninja Food tours!!!

5.00Chikako was an insightful, warm and hospitable guide who gave us a genuine local perspective during the 3-hour Nishiki Market lunch tour. We visited small specialty shops and tasted, among other things, excellent furikake. Her English was excellent, and to our surprise she even spoke some German from her years guiding Japanese travelers abroad. A relaxed and enjoyable small-group experience.
Leandra gave the best tour!

5.00We thoroughly enjoyed our food tour of the market. Mana told us about the history of the market and of the food. We had a good variety of foods. The group was small so it was easy to stay together in the busy market and also hear about the various foods and stalls. It was good value for the money.
