I learned so much about sake and making takoyaki. The sake knowledge was useful for the rest of my trip, especially when I went to a couple of fine dining restaurants. The okonomiyaki we made was the best I had the whole trip. It was so much more crisp than at the food stalls.

Hidden in a small, second floor shop in Osaka just north of Dotonbori is Momoko’s small kitchen. Although small (maybe four people can fit), the experience offered here is a must-do. Momoko is a fantastic host, with a great knowledge of sake (she is a sommelier!) and very good English. We’ve had some sake, but we got to try seven (!) different kinds - we were definitely more than a little tipsy afterwards, which was perfect for exploring Dotonbori. You definitely get your money’s worth, and more importantly, you truly get to understand the different types of sake. And if that wasn’t enough, the takoyaki experience was also fantastic. It was basically a full meal of grilled deliciousness, and the actual cooking process is really engaging. It can be a little tricky to start, but with Momoko’s guidance we ended up with some very picturesque takoyaki. Definitely make time to come see Momoko and enjoy the sake and takoyaki in her shop!
